The top section of the Southcliff steps are now closed until June for step replacement. The beach huts can still be accessed by the steps from the promenade.

Work is going to start to replace the steps down from Southcliff - see information from Tendring District Council. Access from the top of the steps will be closed until mid June and there will be a full closure one day at the end of this month. We will share any further information as we receive it/spot it on social media.

The seasonal toilets are now operational and TDC has advised that the taps are expected to be functioning by the end of the day, 2 April

We have had a few reports of youths running on hut roofs this week. This is unpleasant for people using their huts, potentially damaging to the roofs, and can cause injury - last year someone fell through a hut roof at Eastcliff. If you witness antisocial behaviour in hut areas and have the opportunity please report this behaviour (date, time, location etc) to Essex Police on 101 or using the on-line report service so that agencies can build up a picture of the problem and use available resources where possible. Thank you.

The beach hut fees for 2026/27 have now been agreed by TDC, including a £120 building control compliance fee for verandas at Southcliff and proposed double site fee for commercial leases. Look out for further information when the beach hut fee bills are sent out by Tendring over the coming weeks.

TDC engineers are currently mending the paths around huts at Southcliff which is desperately needed to maintain safe access to the hut areas.

The engineers have shored up and levelled the path which means that there are now gaps between some verandahs and the newly levelled path, and where decking timbers were previously bolted to the old path edge these are no longer secured to the path. If you know there was a gap in the paving slabs in front of your hut please be aware that your decking may be affected.

As this work is extensive and on-going we do not have a list of huts that have been affected by the work.

You will need to be prepared now when you visit your hut - the Southcliff and Eastcliff toilets are now closed. Seafront taps are expected to be removed this week across the District.
