Home-Start is a voluntary organisation offering practical & emotional support to families with childr The Harwich scheme has been established since 1996.

We visit families in their own homes where the dignity & identity of each individual can be respected and protected. We can reassure parents that the difficulties in bringing up children are not unusual & we encourage them to enjoy family life. Volunteers & outreach workers develop a good relationship & trust with the parents encouraging parents' strengths & emotional wellbeing for the ultimate benefit of their children, also encouraging families to widen their network of relationships & to use effectively the support & services available in the community.

Pumpkin Drive fun

28/10/2026

Families First workshop today with a Halloween theme, the children came first, learnt lots of new cooking skills by preparing and cooking a spooky lunch for their parents. The parents then joined us for, Pumpkin soup, fresh bread, severed fingers, monster donuts, decorated biscuits, banana mummies and lots more. With tummies filled we then played ‘pumpkin drive’ ( like a beetle drive but pumpkins) with lots of prizes. A really great day, huge thanks go to the team of volunteers and staff who helped make it such a huge success and also to the awesome children, who listened and learned and made the tastiest spooky lunch I’ve ever, these photos say it all 🎃 we are grateful as always to the support of Marion from Morrisons Harwich for helping to supply all the ingredients for the children to cook with
