Well they only went and did it!!!!
Rachel and Mike completed their amazing walk.
Rachel sent this lovely message updating us on the news:
We started in France at a place called St Jean Pied de Port on 5th May. We crossed over the Pyrenees into Spain on that first day - which was horrendously long……and then just kept walking, averaging just over fifteen miles a day. We had two rest days, one in Logrono and one in Leon. Much needed days off and they both had beautiful launderettes!
We arrived in Santiago de Compostela on the 7th June, after thirty two days walking.
As soon as we arrived in the Cathederal square I burst into tears! We are both a bit overwhelmed, quite honestly, and not sure how to relax!
We met some lovely, lovely people along the way, who also made it here today (everyone has their own Camino) and so we had plenty of people to hug and congratulate.
A stat for you - for the whole walk the total elevation of all the ups was 13,875m and total descents of all the downs was 13,796m. In context, Mount Everest is 8,849m high……..phew!
I think I will miss the rhythm of it all, you don’t think about anything except getting up that hill, eating, sleeping and repeating, every day………we don’t know where the time has gone.
Will not miss sharing dormitories with many, many strangers, the majority, it seems, who snore!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for your support, and very kind words, they kept us going.
They have raised an incredible amount for the centre already but if you want to sponsor them you can still do that, follow the link in the comments and on our story. 🙏 .
