All About Agatha #5

There are more Agatha Christie weekend events being hosted Wallingford Museum .

Some Wallingford WI members had great fun unravelling clues and solving the murder at the drop-in Murder Mystery Night on Friday.

On Saturday and Sunday (23rd/24th May) the museum are running Agatha Christie and Midsomer Murders walks, leaving the museum at 11am.

This season there is a special exhibition in the museum highlighting aspects of Dame Agatha's later life in Wallingford, highly recommend a visit.

All About Agatha #4

Wallingford WI entered a team of 5 in the Cupcakes and Crime quiz this afternoon. We were placed in the penultimate position on the scoreboard, and it might have been lower had there not been a question relating to The Mirror Crack'd from Side to Side 🤣 Great fun was had by all, thanks to Wallingford Library, and the quiz master and setter. We must do more homework for next year, starting now!

All About Agatha #3

Third Wednesday of the month means Wallingford WI book group. To tie in with Wallingford's Agatha Christie commemoration and the Sinodun Players play at the Corn Exchange Wallingford, our book just had to be a Miss Marple. We picked 'The mirror crack'd from side to side', which Agatha dedicated to Margaret Rutherford. There was a lot of discussion about the plot, the characters, twists and turns. We also talked about the changes in attitudes of and towards women in a different era. We all had our own favourite actress for the role of Miss Marple in the film and TV versions of the stories. WInifred thoroughly enjoyed the cake, thank you to our host for baking 🥰

All About Agatha #2

Wallingford WI were watching and ushering the opening night of the Sinodun Players production of Murder, Margaret and Me at the Corn Exchange Wallingford tonight. The play explores the relationship between Agatha Christie and the actress Margaret Rutherford who played Miss Marple in several films. What an amazing production, funny, sad, thoughtful, and mysterious. Brilliant acting from the cast of three, a must see for Wallingford's Agatha commemoration week.

All About Agatha #1

Our walking group did The Agatha Christie trail today. This is the first of many things Wallingford WI are doing in Agatha Christie week in Wallingford, to commemorate 50 years since Agatha's death in 1976. The trail starts at Agatha's statue on the Kinecroft, passes Winterbrook House and follows the Bunk line to Cholsey where Dame Agatha is buried with her husband Sir Max Mallowan at St Mary's Church. We returned to Wallingford along the Thames path. A wonderful walk, great company and perfect weather.

Two of our Wallingford WI members enjoyed a busy week on the Oxfordshire Federation of Women's Institutes holiday to Norfolk. They had visits to several National Trust properties: Anglesey Abbey, Felbrigg Hall, Blickling and Melford Hall; and also went to Sandringham House, Cromer, King’s Lynn, and a cruise on the Norfolk Broads! Looks like a fabulous time was had by all, thanks to OFWI for organising.

We had a fabulous monthly meeting with speaker Simon Booker who shared his passion for wildlife photography with us. He told stories of how he captured his superb images, many of which were taken locally in South Oxfordshire. Simon showed us his camera equipment and donned his camouflage outfit, not the easiest thing to wear! Evening ended with lots of questions for Simon and an opportunity to buy his greetings cards.
