The Sussex Snowdrop Trust

The Sussex Snowdrop Trust Nursing care at home for local children with life-threatening and terminal illnesses. The experienced and wonderful Snowdrop nurses visit children at home.

This unique local charity was founded in 1993 following research by Dr Ann Wallace, Paediatric Consultant at our local hospital, who had identified the desperate need for support for parents caring for a child diagnosed with a life threatening illnesses. When the 3 founders learnt of this need they decided to launch the charity and provide the care that was obviously lacking at that time. The Snow

drop Care at Home Team has evolved over the years and enhanced the care that they can provide. The Snowdrop Care at Home Team (Community Children's Nurses, nurse support workers and full time counsellor) care for all local children diagnosed with a life threatening or terminal illness such as cancer, leukaemia, cystic fibrosis and many other serious illnesses. They provide 24 hour support, advising parents on their child's illness, medical needs, and on the nursing help that they can provide and they are at the end of the phone whenever needed. Financial help and emotional support is also urgently needed by families and can be provided by Snowdrop. Sadly some children don't respond to treatment. Children want to be at home, in their own bed, with their mummy and daddy with them all the time. One mother wrote, 'Having my little daughter at home, gave me mummy time. I was there in the morning when she woke up and when she went to bed. Snowdrop gave me those precious months and made it possible - we are so grateful to the nurses and the charity for all their love and support '

Dr Wallace heads the Snowdrop Care at Home Team and one of the co-founders , Di Levantine, continues to manage the charity as the unsalaried CEO.

But how does a 17 years old cope when told your dream and career are possibly over? Well 3 surgeries and 3 years later, he stood on the top of the podium with an Olympic Gold Medal. And that - was just the beginning...

Last Saturday, 6th June, saw an incredible fundraising day at Bognor Football Club in memory of Lewis Worsley, who so tragically and suddenly passed away last year at such a young age.โฃ

As someone who loved the beautiful game, it was only fitting that family and friends came together for a day of football in Lewis's honour. Despite the awful weather, with rain pouring throughout the day, the spirit and determination of everyone involved shone through. Many supporters turned out in their wet-weather finest to cheer on the teams, enjoy the live music, take part in the raffle and support the fantastic fundraising activities taking place at the club.โฃ

The day was organised by Lewis's mum, Lynne, alongside Lewis's friends Nathan Ediker, Jolyon Hillier, Shane Doick, Jake Birch and Torin Burton. Together, they created a truly special day of remembrance, celebrating Lewis's life while raising vital funds for The Sussex Snowdrop Trust.โฃ

Once again, as he has done for many, many years, the truly incredible Paul, who works for Ace Taxis, joined us for the Snowdrop Walk. He raised an absolutely phenomenal ยฃ804 in sponsorship money, all in memory of his much-loved daughter.
Although he hates having his photo taken - we took this one with one of his colleagues and Paul - just after he had revealed how much he had raised for Snowdrop!
Paul's unwavering support and generosity over the years have been nothing short of inspiring. We are really grateful not only to Paul, but also to his wonderful friends, family, and colleagues, whose generosity made this amazing total, possible.
There are simply not enough words to express our thanks. Paul, your continued support and the way you honour your daughterโ€™s memory year after year touches us all. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.

This week marks Volunteers' Week.

The Sussex Snowdrop Trust has an incredible group of dedicated volunteers, some of which have volunteered for over 30 years!

It is always a pleasure to get our volunteers together to further acknowledge how much they contribute to the charity.

Here are few highlights from past Volunteers' Week - including boarding a Vintage bus to The Black Rabbit, Arundel, a gathering at EDGE Tea & Coffee and another year we enjoyed Denmans Garden.

This year, we are heading to the Weald & Downland Living Museum!

One incredible supporter currently preparing for an extraordinary challenge is Christine Nestor from GWCA Solicitors. At the end of May, Christine will travel to Nepal to take on the world's highest marathon โ€“ the Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon 2026.โฃโฃ

More used to climbing in the Himalayas, Christine will be swapping her crampons for running shoes. Joined by her nephew Mason, she'll spend 10 days trekking to the start line at an astonishing 5,446m above sea level before tackling the 26.2-mile mountain route from Everest Base Camp to the Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar.โฃโฃ

The marathon commemorates the historic first ascent of Everest by Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary in 1953, and with just two weeks until departure, Christine's training is going brilliantly โ€“ she's already completed four trail marathons in the last six weeks!โฃโฃ

At the beginning of May, Ella made the brave decision to have her beautiful long locks chopped off to raise money in memory of her family member, Charlotte, who sadly passed away a number of years ago.โฃ

As part of this amazing act of kindness, Ella also donated her hair to the Princess Trust, helping to provide real-hair wigs to children and young people who have lost their hair through cancer treatment or other conditions. Such a thoughtful gesture that will help bring confidence, comfort and smiles to others ๐Ÿ’•โฃ

Charlotte and her family received support from The Sussex Snowdrop Trust, making Ellaโ€™s fundraising challenge even more special and personal. What an incredible achievement! ๐ŸŒŸ

Today, over 100 amazing students from The Regis School (Official) in Bognor Regis set out early from Worthing Pier to walk an incredible 16.5 miles โ€” more than a half marathon! โ€” all the way to Bognor Pier, raising funds for The Sussex Snowdrop Trust.

Theyโ€™ve already raised over ยฃ3,000, with more donations still coming in. It was truly moving to watch them as they turned that final corner and made their way down the last 500 metres โ€” an unforgettable moment for everyone waiting at the pier. ๐Ÿ’›

Our heartfelt thanks go to every single student for their amazing resilience and determination. Completing such a trek is no small feat! They ended their incredible journey with a celebratory photo alongside our chairman and co-founder, Di Levantine.
