Evening all.
You have probably worked out by now that we were without our regular video editor Gordon Brett again last night. Hope the shoulder is on the mend, and fingers crossed we will see you track side in a couple of weeks mate.
So another bank Holiday monday meeting came and went, and yet another cracking meeting it was!
We were missing a few regular faces which is to be expected. But we did have Shaun and Austin Taylor (as it was a bank Holiday).
We also saw the return for the first time in 2026 of Max Flynn. Max definitely made a impression last night, and hopefully this will signal a permanent return to racing. 🙏🏁
Car numbers were good in all classes with 15 1300 stock cars, 8 hot rods, and 7 minis. This would mean 3 mixed split heats for the 1300's, 2 mixed split heats for the hot rods. The minis would have a all in heat and final.
During the break before the finals the top 3 drivers in each class were awarded there vouchers for the spring series that finished at the last meeting.
Max Flynn was also presented with his 3rd place trophie from the Annual championship last year.
On to the racing, and we will start with the minis. Normally the minis tend to be on the crazy side, but for some reason they all seemed very well behaved during the qualling heats.
It would be form man of late in the minis Jack Cooper who would take yet another pole. Sam Maidment was on grid 2, grid 3 was Daren Wood, grid 4 was Allan Goodland, grid 5 was Paul Cooper, grid 6 was Rob Driver, and grid 7 was Phil Jacobs.
We did say that during the heats the minis had been well behaved. That definitely went out the window come the final! Even with all the craziness there was no stopping Jack from taking the win. Early season pace setters Sam and Paul would take 2nd and 3rd. 4th would go the way of Allan, with Daren, Phill and Rob filling the other places.
1300's next. After the first qualifying round Jack Cooper would be sitting pretty at the top of the time sheets. Come round 2 the returning Max Flynn would blitz the field and take a stunning pole slot on his return to the track. 👏
The B final would see Paul Cooper on grid 1, grid 2 was Jim Treagust, grid 3 was Adam Knight, grid 4 was Phil Jacobs, grid 5 was Austin Taylor, grid 6 was Paul Firth, and grid 7 was Geoff Treagust.
Paul would start at the front and finish there to take the win. Jim put in a very good drive to take 2nd. 3rd was Austin in another good drive. 4th would be Adam, with Phil, paul, and Geoff filling the other places.
The A final would see Max on grid 1. Keith Smith had climbed to grid 2, grid 3 would be Jack Cooper, grid 4 was Jonathan Freestone, grid 5 was Allan Goodland, grid 6 was Daren Wood, grid 7 was Jordan Howe, and grid 8 was Sam Maidment.
Could Max go on to take the final win? Unfortunately not, early contact put him on the back foot, then the car cut out completely, but then came back to life!
All this let Keith start to build a gap up front, that was until he and Jordan "Mumbles" started there normal game of "chess" during the final lol 😆 keith would then get involved with Max, and just about everyone other car on track!
Come the end keith would take the win from Jack in 2nd. Mumbles was back on the pace taking 3rd after some struggles in qualifying. 4th would be Max in a good come back drive. 5th was Daren, 6th was Allan, 7th was Sam and 8th was Jonathan.
Hot rods now. So far this year the Minis have taken centre stage, and more recently the 1300's. Last night however it was the hot rods that seemed to be the talk of the night. With Shaun Taylor, and Max Flynn back on track there was a air of excitement that the current pecking order could change.
No one however had told Jack Cooper this. As we said in our spring series round up, Jack keeps a low profile, but is extremely quick. After round 1 it was Jack's name at the top of the times, exactly as it was in the 1300's. Come round 2 Max Flynn spoiled Jack's party in the 1300's, could he do the same again? The answer was a outstanding yes. Max blitzed round to a 93 lapper and top spot in qualifying. 👏
The B final would again be a contest between Jim Treagust, and Jonathan Freestone. Exactly like last time Jim and Jonathan would have a great race. Jonathan would take the win from Jim in 2nd.
After some mega qualifying heats the hot rods took to the track for the A final. Max Flynn would start from the pole. Keith Smith had matched Max's 93 in the last round but was slower on split time to take grid 2. Shaun Taylor would take grid 3 with a 92 lapper proving how close it was at the front. Grid 4 was Jack Cooper, grid 5 was Jordan Howe, and Adam Knight was on grid 6.
At the buzzer Max and keith made a good start and ran nose to tail starting to build a gap. There really was nothing between them for maybe 4 and a half minutes of racing. The lead was swapped, wheels were banged and it could of gone either way. Shaun held 3rd not far behind and ready to pick up the pieces if it all went wrong. With maybe 15 seconds left keith had the lead with Max maybe 1 inch behind. keith would clip the apex, and with Max so close contact was made. Both cars half spun and it was Keith who got going first and with a couple of meters in hand took the win from Max in 2nd. 3rd just 1 lap behind was Shaun. Jack would take 4th, Mumbles would be 5th with Adam 6th.
It really was a mega hot rod final, like ones not seen round BMCC for the last couple of years. That makes the hot rod A final our "race of the night" this time, and it also Makes Max Flynn our "driver of the night" first time out in maybe 5 months, 2 pole poistions, and almost 2 wins!
If anyone fancies some more mega racing Solet raceway have a meeting this Saturday. There will be some of the BMCC regulars on track there to. 🏁
Thanks to all who came and raced, set up and packed away.
Thanks to Adam, Paul and Sam who now play a very important role in running race control 👏
We do it all again in a couple of weeks.
As always the BMCC team look forward to seeing you all there. 😀
Keep an eye on the fb page this week as we will be starting to release details of the Peter House Memorial Meeting 2026. (Save the date September 26th)
