Neil Williams was sacked from his role as health and safety manager at the National Coal Mining Museum in December.

It was after he raised a number of health and safety concerns, and was photographed at a rally supporting striking workers.

He's submitting a claim for unfair dismissal.

✊ Wakefield District UNISON at Orgreave Anniversary March✊

Today, Wakefield District UNISON stood proudly at the Orgreave Anniversary March and Rally in Sheffield, with banners held high in support of truth and justice for the miners brutalised at Orgreave in 1984.

42 years on, we remember the courage of those who stood firm during the Miners’ Strike and continue the fight to ensure the truth is finally told.

Solidarity then, solidarity now. ✊

Pride isn’t just a celebration - it’s a protest. It always has been.

At a time when some councils are trying to cancel or scale back Pride events, it’s more important than ever that we stand together and show visible support for our LGBT+ siblings. Rights shouldn’t be up for debate, and we won’t stay quiet while they’re challenged.

At Wakefield District UNISON, we stand proudly with our LGBT+ members this Pride Month and every month.

Here’s how we’re supporting our members:
✊ Standing up to discrimination and speaking out when we see injustice
✊ Supporting members at work with advice, representation, and safe spaces
✊ Pushing for workplaces that are inclusive, respectful, and fair for everyone
✊ Working alongside our LGBT+ members to make our union stronger and more inclusive

💪 Get involved
Real change happens when we organise together. If you want to make a difference, now is the time to become active in UNISON—whether that’s attending meetings, supporting campaigns, or becoming a workplace rep. Our strength comes from our members standing together.

🌈 Get involved locally
We’re proud to support LonGBoaT Wakefield’s Community Pride Event - a chance to come together, show solidarity, and celebrate our community:
