We are incredibly grateful to Runnymede Borough Council for their kind donation of £2934 to the project of upgrading our equipment.

Lots of our equipment was in need of either maintenance or earmarked for replacement. In addition to this, due to the rapid expansion of our group, we needed to ensure that our equipment stock is ready to meet the demands for our young people on summer camp.

With the money, our leaders voted from a list of equipment that would be a priority, we managed to purchase:
- 2x Camping Trolleys
-2x Large First Aid Kits
- 5x Knightwick 3.0 - 3 man tents
- 4x Octagon Coleman tents
- 12x Retevis Walkie Talkies
- 1x EcoFlow power bank.
- 1x LED Floodlight.

We are so incredibly grateful for the support for this project, we could not have done this without the support.

We'll show you some more pictures of the equipment in action once we are out and about!

Love seeing the opportunities our group provides for young people?

1st Virginia Water are currently looking for new volunteers to join our team. We are looking for:

- A Treasurer -> To assist with handling the group's money. We operate a joint treasurer role, which means that the workload is balanced.

- A cleaner -> We are looking for a cleaner to come in once a month to help keep our hall clean.

All hours are flexible, you choose how much you are able to give during one particular week, as long as the tasks are completed.

If you would like to join our amazing, special Scout group, please email [email protected] to find out more details.

We have an unsung hero to sing about!

We are immensely proud to announce that one of our young people was presented with a Commissioner's Commendation award, presented by our District Lead Volunteer, Penny, for being an amazing role model for all of our Scouts values. Only five of these awards have been issued for the most exceptional people (Both adult and young people).

Congratulations to one of our Lions for receiving your award, your care and respect for everyone around you does not go unnoticed.

We have some great news which we would love to share with you!

As part of our commitment to keep young people safe when at our meetings, we have installed a brand new L2 grade fire alarm system in our hall.

The project was fully funded by Surrey County Council through the Your Fund Surrey Small Community Projects Fund.

We, at 1st Virginia Water, would like to thank Cllr Jonathan Hulley for his amazing support for this project. We would also like to thank all of the amazing companies involved.

Our hall has seen some amazing improvements over the past two years, a dedicated commitment from our amazing volunteers giving up extra time to put the "worth" back into "Trotsworth Hall" and to ensure that our hall remains at the heart of our amazing, thriving Scout group.

A few voluntary roles we are looking to fill
Hi all - At 1st Virginia Water, we are always looking to make the lives of our volunteers (Leaders, Trustees, Supporters) easier. Therefore, I am looking to appoint people in the following positions:

- Cleaner -> We are looking for someone to assist our current cleaner Liz in going to the hall once a month to assist with the cleaning of the hall. This is usually done on a Friday morning, however, your week is flexible. The only timings we are unable to offer (Other than evenings) is Tuesday mornings until 12.30pm.
- Treasurer [T] -> We are actively looking for someone to join as a treasurer who manages the front side of the treasury, this includes managing the payments which go through OSM (Including chasing). We split this role in two as there is always lots to do with the treasury, so this role is now perfect. If you would like more details, I am more than happy to send these via email.
- Assistant Leaders for Wolf Cubs -> Following a discussion with one of our Team Leaders for Wolves - The need is clear for another one or two Team Members to join Wolf Cubs (Wolf Cubs run on a Monday evening and we are looking for one or two adults to assist the delivery of their programme. We are asking for a minimum of one Monday evening (6.30pm to 8pm) once a fortnight.
- Minute taker [T] -> We are also currently looking to appoint a minute taker for the trustee board meetings.
- Fundraisers -> We are looking to set up a team of parent helpers on a sub-committee who are able to help us on the occasional fundraising events. This includes actively seeking ways to further enrich the funds for our activities we provide, as well as organising the planning and delivery of stalls at local fairs, etc.

If you are interested in any of these positions, please get in touch! If you know of anyone who might also be interested but is not in these group chats, please pass on my email address [email protected] and we can send them the details.

1st Virginia Water continues to remain a really successful group, and that is entirely down to all the volunteers who take part in their respective activities.

These roles, for the most part are fairly light duties. Some are marked with a [T] next to the role name, this means that the role requires becoming a member of the Scout groups Trustee Board.

All candidates for an adult appointment in Scouting must be 18+ and be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure (DBS) check at minimum. Some roles also require additional training and training checks. Any candidate for the role will be fully supported throughout the joining process and be given a full run down on how things are run at a group level.
