Summer may be starting to wind down, but we’re looking for those gorgeous sunshine-filled galgo and greyhound photos for our 2027 Greyhounds in Need Calendar!

Photos uploaded to social media are compressed, so we need the original file to be able to consider your photo for the printed calendar.

🐾 We had such a lovely update from our friends at Asociación Compañero Fiel in Spain, and it really brought home just how relentless rescue work can be.

At the moment, they are caring for 114 greyhounds, as well as 16 mixed-breed dogs. This week, 35 greyhounds are heading off to their new homes, which is wonderful news 💚

But even as those dogs leave, there are already requests to take in more than 50 more. 🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾

That really is the reality for Carmen and her team. There is always another dog waiting, another vet bill, more food to buy, more vaccinations, more sterilisations and often extra treatment for dogs who arrive in poor condition.

Even water is a challenge. During the hottest weather, the usual supply isn’t always enough, so extra tanker deliveries have to be paid for just to keep the shelter going.

And still, they keep saying yes.
Yes to the next frightened galgo.
Yes to the next dog who needs treatment.
Yes to the next one who has nowhere else to go.

We’re so pleased that we can help support their work and ease some of that pressure. As Carmen said in her message to us: “Behind every donation and every piece of support there are dogs receiving food, veterinary care, attention and, above all, a chance of having a better life.” 💚

Thank you, as always, to everyone who supports us. It means we can be there for groups like Asociación Compañero Fiel when they need a helping hand.

🐾 Aura is only six months old.
She should have been spending her puppyhood playing, exploring and discovering the world. Instead, this beautiful little galga was found alone on the street with several fractures.

Our friends at Arca de Noé took her in and got her to a specialist veterinary hospital, where she underwent the surgery she desperately needed. Now, thankfully, Aura is safe. ❤️

She is recovering in a foster home, growing stronger every day and finally getting the care, comfort and kindness every puppy deserves.

The treatment she needed came with a very large veterinary bill, so we’re really pleased that we can support Arca de Noé with the cost of Aura’s veterinary care and help them continue to be there for dogs like her.

🐾We wanted to share a few of the puppies currently being cared for by our friends at Arca de Noé in Spain, who we’ve been able to help with funding for their care.

Little Chencho (the black pup), also known as Negrito, was found abandoned in a rubbish container with badly malformed legs. His vet believes this was caused by starvation in his very early days, affecting the way his bones developed.

The good news is that he doesn’t appear to be in pain and there is hope that, as he grows, he will adapt and be able to enjoy a happy, good-quality life. 💛

Then there are Koldo and Kempo, two more puppies recently found abandoned in the countryside.

Sadly, this is something shelters in Spain see far too often. Puppies can be discarded because there are too many in a litter, because they are considered weaker, because they are male or female, or simply because their colour isn’t wanted.

It’s difficult to imagine looking at these little faces and deciding they don’t matter.
Thankfully, Arca de Noé were there for them. They now have food, warmth, veterinary care, safety and people fighting to give them the future every puppy deserves.

We’re so grateful that, thanks to everyone who supports us, we can help with the costs of caring for dogs like Chencho, Koldo and Kempo. It might feel like a small part of a huge problem, but for these puppies, it means everything. ❤️

We’re so happy to see the new intake zone at , funded by Greyhounds in Need. 💛🐾

This is where newly arrived dogs can be given a safe place to rest, decompress and receive the care they need when they first come into the shelter.

Originally, the intake area was only intended to house dogs for a few days. But with increasing numbers of galgos needing help, it is now in almost constant use, with some dogs having to stay there for much longer.

The existing facilities simply weren’t designed for that. They offered too little protection from the heat of the Almería summer and the colder winter months, making improvements increasingly important for the dogs’ comfort and welfare.

Thanks to your support, Greyhounds in Need has been able to fund the upgrade of this vital space, helping Galgos Rescue Almería provide better conditions for the dogs arriving in their care.

Handsome Pistachio is a lovely little galgo who has just celebrated his 2nd birthday. At around 23kg, he's a lovely size, with a gentle nature, bright eyes and a sunny personality that quickly wins hearts.

Life hasn't always been kind to Pistachio. He carries a few physical scars from his past, but they do nothing to diminish the beautiful dog he is today.

Like many rescued galgos, Pistachio is still finding his feet in the world. New places and new experiences can feel a little overwhelming, so he's looking for someone who understands that confidence can't be rushed. He needs a home where he'll be given the time, patience and space to settle at his own pace, with people who will celebrate every little step forward rather than expect too much too soon.

The reward? Watching a shy dog blossom into a confident, happy companion is one of the most special journeys you can share.
