We’re hugely proud to announce the official launch of Dentaid’s latest hub in the North East of England as part of our 30th anniversary celebrations!

Based in County Durham, the hub is our fourth to come into operation. Featuring a dedicated mobile dental unit and staff, will allow us to reach more vulnerable people in need of dental care across the county, Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire, Northumberland and even parts of Scotland.

Throughout this week, we’ve been busy in York and South Shields working with people experiencing homelessness and those in recovery from addiction, helping to provide treatments and advice to keep people out of pain and allow them to focus on the next stages of their lives.

It was a pleasure to welcome ITV Tyne Tees and BBC Newcastle along to our mobile dental clinic on Wednesday to see our work in action and raise awareness of the transformative effect dental care can have.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to our volunteers for supporting those most in need and to everyone who has helped to get our work in the North East off to a flying start!

Today our 30th anniversary celebrations focussed on BrightBites. Hollybrook Infant and Junior Schools in Southampton welcomed Denplan's Head Dental Officer, Matthew Nolan and Clinical Services Lead, Lianne Scott-Munden who gave a lively presentation about teeth, toothbrushing and sugar – and there were lots of horrified looks when the children discovered how much of the sweet stuff is in milkshakes! They also wished Dentaid a happy birthday and showed off their smiles with our balloons.

This week marks a very special occasion for Dentaid as we celebrate our 30th anniversary!

What started as a project to transport dental equipment across Europe to Ukraine back in 1996 has now grown into a cause providing treatment to thousands of people experiencing homelessness, harm, poverty and abuse across the UK and around the world every year.

Since the very beginning of Dentaid’s operations we have relied on the support of so many in improving access to dental care for those who need it most. We are so thankful to everyone who has helped us along this journey to where we are today.

This we’re celebrating the tireless work of the countless volunteers who help us support vulnerable people across the UK and overseas.
Having the support of hundreds of dentists, dental nurses, industry professionals, oral health educators and many other volunteers is crucial to ensure our work to provide dental care can reach as far and as wide as possible.
Their work has allowed us to deliver more than 500 charity dental clinics across the UK and help teach thousands of children about the importance of healthy teeth through our oral health campaign BrightBites.
This week we'll be travelling up and down the country to say a huge thank you to all those who give their time to help those less fortunate to access important oral health care.

Please help our 100km Ultra Challengers reach the £35,000 mark!

During the weekend’s heatwave they walked, jogged and even ran 100km from London to Brighton – and we think they are all utterly incredible!

Their joint fundraising efforts so far stand at more than £31,000 which will help us change so many lives through dental care – but with your help we can do even more!

The map is back! Can you help us fill the gaps this summer?

We are looking for volunteer dentists and dental nurses across the UK to help us deliver care to those who need it most.

We’ll be partnering with charities supporting people experiencing homelessness, vulnerable members of the community, families living in poverty, refugees and people seeking asylum, to ensure the most vulnerable have access to the emergency dental care they need.

“The problems I have with my teeth leave me with basically no incentive to eat whatsoever. Having nothing to bite with at the front makes it so difficult to chew. I really miss being able to eat things like steaks and roast dinners and French green apples. Those are the things I dream of eating again.”

“It’s difficult for people like me to be seen. Just having the chance to speak to the dentist and nurse was a real boost. They were very reassuring and treated me well while on board.”

Jody was one of the patients we were able to support in Littlehampton through a clinic funded by the Straumann Group Foundation.

Our multi-year partnership with the Straumann Group Foundation is helping to expand access to essential dental care for people experiencing homelessness, poverty, harm and abuse across the South East and North West of England.

The clinics will be delivered in trusted community settings, allowing the most vulnerable people to access the emergency dental care they need to improve their wellbeing and long-term oral health.

Over the past few days we have been in Barrow-in-Furness in Cumbria providing dental care to families supported by Barrow Families.

Love Barrow Families is an incredible local charity that supports families facing hardship. By bringing together health and social care professionals families are given one trusted point of contact, rather than having to navigate multiple agencies, making it easier to access the help they need.

For families living in poverty or experiencing health inequalities, maintaining oral health or visiting a dentist is often pushed down the list of priorities. We work alongside organisations like community centres and family hubs, like Love Barrow Families, to help remove barriers to accessing care.

Congratulations to the intrepid climbers from Bupa Dental Care UK who battled their way to the top of Snowdon - all while carrying a bright blue fuzzy dental chair!

Members of the property team at Bupa took in in terms to lift this huge rig more than 1,000 metres up the highest peak in Wales on Friday.

Through this incredible challenge they have managed to raise more than £10,000 – a huge achievement that will go towards helping to transform the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the UK through dental care on Dentaid’s mobile clinics.

Thank you so much for all of your effort in reaching the summit – you are all superstars!
