It's one week since our Pride Cabaret Youth Night and we just wanted to say a huge thank you to Totnes Pride for putting on such a wonderful four days of celebrations across Totnes 🏳️‍🌈❤️

Our young musicians had so much fun dressing up, dancing, jamming, and celebrating together last Thursday evening.

It was already one of the most talked-about sights in Totnes. Now the enormous rainbow flag wrapped around the town’s historic castle has become the subject of a political row. 🌈🏰

Restore Britain leader and Great Yarmouth MP Rupert Lowe criticised the Totnes Pride display online, describing it as “wildly naff” and “vomit-inducing”. He also claimed that “sensible gay people despise the woke theatre of it all”.

Totnes Pride has responded, saying its volunteer team and the 400-plus members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies who attended thought the event was “wonderful”. Organisers say they have received no complaints from attendees or residents and believe most of the negative reaction they have seen has come online from outside Totnes.

The flag display was designed as a highly visible celebration during the four-day Pride festival — and after all the attention it has received, organisers say they’re now wondering how they can possibly top it next year.
