Extraordinary Meeting of Totnes Town Council – Local Government Reorganisation: Monday 10th August at 6.45pm in the Guildhall.

There has been a great deal of local discussion recently about the proposed Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) and, in particular, the proposed boundary arrangements affecting part of Bridgetown (map attached). Please note the changes to boundaries are linked to the new unitaries, which will replace District and County Councils from 2028.

Totnes Town Council will be discussing this issue at an Extraordinary Full Council Meeting on Monday 10 August at 6.45pm in the Guildhall, Totnes. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

We are aware that there are strongly held views across the community and we would encourage residents to engage with the discussion and ensure their views are heard.

It is important to note that this is not a decision that Totnes Town Council, Berry Pomeroy Parish Council, Devon County Council, Torbay Council or South Hams District Council can make. The final decision on unitary boundaries rests with Government as part of the Local Government Reorganisation process.

The discussion is not simply about council tax areas. The key issues include how local services will be delivered, how communities are represented, how funding and support arrangements operate, and whether established communities should be divided by administrative boundaries.

The meeting space does have a maximum capacity so please consider this, we will do our best to ensure we can accommodate as many attendees as possible.
