Why is the far right on the rise in Europe?

The Guardian reported this year that nearly a quarter of voters in Europe voted for far-right parties in their most recent national elections, a fivefold increase since 1995. What does this mean for the continent's political future?

The recent abuse, threats, and misinformation faced by the RNLI is disgraceful.

The RNLI has been saving lives at sea for more than 200 years. 97% of its members are volunteers who risk their lives to respond to emergencies at sea and keep people safe. I am glad to hear that the RNLI has seen an increase in donations since it revealed volunteers had been targeted by far-right protestors.

Over the weekend I visited RNLI Teignmouth, to express my support for them and all RNLI volunteers. As a coastal constituency the RNLI provides an essential service, and they told me they have received many messages of support, which is very encouraging.

I have also signed an Early Day Motion celebrating the work of the RNLI and urging the Government to continue their support so that the RNLI can continue to act with courage, compassion and without discrimination.
