A happy time was spent at the District 17 rally on 14th October 2026 held at the Palace Hotel, Paignton. Greetings were brought by the District 20 Chairman, the President of Torquay Rotary, the Rotary District 1127 Governor and the Mayor of Torbay. The Association President of the Inner Wheel Clubs GB&I, Pat, gave an amusing and interesting account of her journey through the Inner Wheel. The rally was attended by 39 members and friends and they enjoyed being seated around a large oval table.

On 9th October 2026 thirteen members of the Inner Wheel were invited to strut their stuff at the Knit and Stitch show held at Alexandra Palace in London. They had been challenged to create a garment using a minimum of two of the long scarves produced for the centenary year of Inner Wheel in 2024. Seventeen members had taken part in this challenge and exhibited their work at the conference in Llandudno in April where they were judged by Patrick Grant of the Great British Sewing Bee. The event in London was great fun and a chance to showcase the Inner Wheel at our stall.

On Monday 17th August the Inner Wheel Club of Torquay had a teddy bears picnic in the beautiful garden of Jane, their secretary. Some teddies had a wonderful story their owners told us about. This raised money for their Inner Wheel Charities. The cakes made by Jane were delicious.

The Inner Wheel club of Torquay had a very happy and successful day at the Babbacombe Fair on Sunday 9th August. In a shady tent kindly loaned by Devon Garden Machinery through Tormohoun Rotary, they distributed over sixty leaflets to the many visitors and did very well selling their good quality merchandise in aid of their Inner Wheel charities. Many thanks to the Inner wheel ladies for all their hard work.

The Presidents Lunch was held at the Chelston Manor Restaurant. The food was excellent and the club presented President Jeannette with a bouquet of flowers. It was also Pat’s birthday so the club exercised their vocal cords.

District 17 were challenged by the District Chairman to make biscuits using cutters donated by a friend of Inner Wheel. Three clubs rose to the challenge. Jane from Torquay produced delicious biscuits that their club enjoyed very much. Bridget from Barnstaple found her biscuits disappeared very fast and were much appreciated. Lesley in Dartmouth ran out of time so her husband David used Mary’s Meals biscuit cutters the night before the AGM and produced some very tasty biscuits too. Well done to all of them.

The International Rally which was held in the Barnstaple Hotel on Tuesday 5th May 2026. As District 17’s ISO Jeannette has hurt her ribs, Deirdre was invited to represent her as the Chairman. There was a very interesting talk by Roger Ireland about how the Mary’s Meals charity started and developed to now be feeding over three million children a day worldwide. The lunch was delicious and the raffle raised a good sum and was full of lovely prizes donated by all the clubs.
