Thornhill Community Group News and information for the community of THORNHILL, WEST YORKSHIRE. Priority will be given to responding to issues during office hours.

Thornhill Village. Here they will find a pharmacy,garage, florist,Taxi rank, hairdresser's, grocery store, Newsagents, mini-market. Butchers shop 2 cafes, 2 fish and chip shops 2 Post office's there is also a Doctors Surgery and a Dentist in the centre of Thornhill Village. There are a number of public houses and fast food takeaways also located in Thornhill Village centre. There is Thornhill social club on Edge top road Various activities including Yoga Club, Art Class, Keep Fit and Slimming, Probus Club, Flower Club and Sequence Dancing. Sports facilities can be found close to Overthorpe Park. The park itself has a Rugby Club whose sports house is also used as a community centre for local social events. There is also the Thornhill Sports and Social Club off Overthorpe Road which has a bowling green and football pitch formally the miners welfare. There is a cricket and tennis club at the combs with football facility's. Residents may wish to explore the Kirklees Walkway. Much of the walk is along the canal side and runs from Thornhill to Thornhill Lees and further afield to Wakefield.

⚠️ Experts have warned that Keir Starmer's ban on social media for under 16's could cause a surge in popularity in some old fashioned forgotten british past times! 😲

Dan Gliborls, a researcher from the Authority Regulating Screen Exposure has said that banning young people from Tiktok, Facebook and YouTube could see a resurgence in some almost extinct british activities.

When the social media ban comes in next year, Mr Gliborls expects to see a sudden sharp rise in teenagers taking part in the following activities;

🍺 - Drinking cheap alcohol in parks

💦 - Throwing random things in to canals

🔥 - Starting fires

🚪- Playing 'Knock a door run'

🚬 - Standing outside a corner shop for two hours asking strangers to buy them ci******es

🏢 - exploring abandoned buildings

🏕 - pretending to sleep at a mates house but camping out in a random field.

"Social media can be dangerous for teenagers but I would argue that watching a Mr Beast video on Youtube is not as dangerous as drinking 3 litres of White Lightening." Dan added.
