Eileen’s work is testament to her passion for creativity and this is often apparent through the variation of materials and themes within her work. From highly detailed realism paintings, to more expressive surreal imaginations of nature. SCAF really is very lucky to have such a broad range of artworks in our archive, even works on paper like this piece are held with great care and respect in our collection.

Our 2025 artist talk series really has us all getting excited for the 2026 Emerging Artist Awards! We hope you’re all enjoying finding out a bit more about the artists behind last years EAA exhibition at SCAF. Keep an eye on our blog for clips from the second artist talk coming soon!

A huge thanks to artist Julie Bancroft for taking part! This talk was supported by SCAFs Curator Lydia Poole, 2025 Intern Fred Upton, and social media and marketing lead Amelia Pethullis.

This week, our Living Landscape Community Project garden volunteers had a wonderful visit to the Forest of Flowers, just outside of York. Their amazing project works with nature, planting wildflowers, and planting 42,000 trees on their repurposed farmland! An amazing project with a very big impact on the natural landscape that they care for. I’m sure this visit planted plenty of seeds of inspiration for our volunteers!

A huge thanks to the Forest of Flowers team, and SCAFs Director Sue Armstrong for making the visit possible.

Here we have an oil painting by Michael, depicting a beautiful concealed castle within a green garden-scape. I especially enjoy the vibrant blues that contour the shadows and the sky of the piece. It’s yet another gorgeous example of the Scott’s work from our vast archive - this piece dating back to the early 1980’s.

Earlier this month, our Creative Director, Sue Armstrong, attended the opening night of the Art in Your Eyes inaugural exhibition at Holy Trinity Church in Leeds. It was a buzzing celebration of Yorkshire creativity, an exciting beginning for the project, and we’ll certainly be keeping a close eye on what they do next!

A beautiful floral still life from Eileen to brighten these cloudy spring days. Hopefully the vibrant colours of this painting bring you all some inspiration! I particularly enjoy the boldness of the piece, with large petals taking focus, the slightly warped dimensions to me add strength and confidence.

Our latest blog takes a joyful look back at last summer’s Emerging Artist Awards Artist Talk Series and the conversations, the creativity, and the incredible work shared by Pennie Metcalfe, Laura Lee and Archie Brooks. With our 2026 finalists now creating their final pieces for this summer’s exhibition at Danum Gallery, it feels like the perfect moment to revisit the energy that shaped 2025.
