World Environment Day 5th June.

To mark this occasion, I'd like to share some beautiful Haiku's that one of the Cod Beck: Discovery Project volunteers, Ted Naibitt has created.

A Haiku is a Japanese form of poetry where the three lines of every verse must be 5, then 7, then 5 syllables long.

Can you recognise any of the places that feature?

πŸ’™ As we celebrate Volunteer Week, we want to take a moment to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to every one of our incredible volunteers. πŸ’™

Your kindness, compassion, dedication and willingness to give your time so freely make an enormous difference to the lives of people across our communities every single day. Whether you're offering a listening ear πŸ‘‚, delivering vital services πŸš—, supporting projects 🀝, helping at events πŸŽ‰, driving, fundraising πŸ’·, or simply being there when someone needs support, your contribution matters more than words can express.

Many of the services we provide simply would not be possible without our volunteers. You are the heart of Community Works ❀️, and your commitment helps us reach people who need support, friendship, guidance and hope.

Last year alone, our volunteers gave more than 8,000 hours of their time across all of our services. ⏰ That is 8,000 hours of care, kindness, encouragement and community spirit. The impact of those hours is immeasurable and has touched countless lives throughout our local area.

Thank you for choosing to spend your valuable time helping others. Thank you for your passion, your generosity, and for believing in the power of community. 🌟

We are incredibly grateful for everything you do and proud to have you as part of the Community Works family. πŸ’œ

Happy Volunteer Week! πŸŽ‰

We are currently supporting a young woman (17) who is in need of some summer clothing. She would describe herself as a medium.

At the moment, she only has joggers and sweatshirts, so we’re hoping to help her build a more suitable wardrobe for the warmer months. Items that would be especially helpful include:

β€’ Loose waisted shorts
β€’ Vests and t-shirts
β€’ A loose summer dress or skirt
β€’ A plain short-sleeved blouse (for potential job interviews)

As she’s just starting out and actively job searching, having a few options that feel comfortable, appropriate, and confidence-boosting would make a real difference.

We’re also mindful that, given her age, clothing that feels more suited to a younger style would be ideal.

If you’re able to help, please get in touch or drop items into us – thank you as always for your continued support πŸ’™

On Tuesday at Past Times we celebrated National Paper Plane Day and what a lovely session it turned out to be ✈️

We spent the afternoon creating a skyline, folding paper planes together, sharing memories of flying, holidays and childhood games, before putting our creations to the test with some very competitive plane throwing challenges! There was plenty of laughter, encouragement and a few surprise champion pilots too.

Activities like this are such a simple but powerful way to support coordination, concentration, creativity and conversation for people living with dementia β€” and of course, to have fun together.

A huge well done to everyone for getting involved and making the room and garden full of smiles, teamwork and flying paper planes! πŸ’™
