Sometimes, the smallest moments in fostering can mean the most! ⭐

Fostering isn’t only about the big milestones. Often, it’s found in the everyday moments that slowly help a child feel safe and settled.

It might be remembering how they like their breakfast, being there after a difficult day at school, celebrating something they’re proud of, or simply creating routines they know they can rely on.

For children who may have experienced uncertainty or change, those ordinary moments can help build trust, confidence and a sense of belonging. Soundly’s approach recognises that stability comes through consistent care and relationships children can depend on.

Foster carers aren’t expected to navigate those moments alone. At Soundly Fostering, we take the time to know our carers and provide support that feels personal to them and the children they care for.

We’re heading to Taste of the Caribbean! 🌴

On 5th September, you’ll find Soundly Fostering at Taste of the Caribbean at Earlham Park in Norwich.

We’ll be there to enjoy everything the festival has to offer, from the food and music to the celebration of Caribbean culture, while also having open and informal conversations with anyone who might be curious about fostering.

Some of our fostering families will be joining us for the day too. Celebrating culture and identity is so important, particularly for children growing up in foster care, and events like this give us an opportunity to come together, have fun and celebrate the cultures that are meaningful to the children we support!

August has been a busy one at Soundly, with plenty to celebrate! ☀️

Our annual beach day brought swimming, dogs, time together and, as always, some impressively enormous holes in the sand. Joy and Kat also took four of our young people to Center Parcs, where they cycled, swam, climbed, played laser quest and tried new things, with some even overcoming their fear of heights on the treetop glider!

Our Soundly Speakers youth council met to talk about what community means to them, before heading to Go Ape for an activity they’d chosen together. We’re also looking forward to our summer day, bringing carers, children, siblings, extended family and young people who have moved on back together for a picnic, games, bouncy castles and a visit from Safari Stu 🐍

There have been some big milestones too. Two of our young people secured the grades they needed for university, while for others, simply sitting their exams was an achievement we’re incredibly proud of.

Alongside plenty of summer holidays and adventures, we’ve been out at the Wayland Show, local events and café pop-ups meeting people interested in fostering. We’re also delighted that two new households have started their fostering assessments with Soundly.

One of the biggest barriers to fostering isn't eligibility; it's assumption.

Every year, people rule themselves out because they believe something about their circumstances automatically means they cannot foster.

Some think they need professional childcare experience.

Others believe they are too old.
Some assume they cannot foster because they work.
Others assume they need to be married, in a couple or own their own home before they can foster.

In reality, fostering is far more diverse than many people realise.

While there are requirements that need to be met, many of the assumptions people make about fostering simply aren't true.

If you've ever considered fostering but dismissed the idea because of something you've heard, it may be worth having a conversation before making that decision.

Children thrive when they know what to expect.

For many children in care, life before foster care may have involved uncertainty, frequent change, disrupted routines or experiences that made it difficult to trust the adults around them.

That's why stability is so important.

Stability isn't simply about where a child lives. It's about feeling safe, experiencing consistency, building trusting relationships and knowing that the adults around them will continue to show up.

These experiences help children develop confidence, emotional security and a sense of belonging.

At the beginning of August, we had the pleasure of attending both the Abbey Summer Fair and the Wayland Agricultural Show.

Across the two events, we spoke to lots of people from our local communities, many of whom were curious about fostering but weren't quite sure where to begin.

Some had been considering fostering for years.

Others had never thought about it before.

What they all had in common was a willingness to have a conversation.

These conversations matter because fostering is often surrounded by assumptions and misconceptions. Sometimes all it takes is the opportunity to ask a question, hear a real experience or gain a better understanding of what fostering actually involves.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to speak with us.

When people think about fostering, the focus is often placed on the support children need.

While that support is incredibly important, foster carers need support too.

Fostering can be one of the most rewarding experiences a person has, but it can also be emotionally demanding. Children may arrive having experienced trauma, loss, uncertainty or instability. Building trust takes time, patience and understanding.

That's why good fostering support matters.

Support can take many forms. It may be regular supervision, training opportunities, reflective discussions, peer support from other carers, or simply knowing there is someone available when advice is needed.

Strong support helps foster carers feel confident, valued and equipped to provide the best possible care.

No one should be expected to foster alone.

At Soundly, we believe that when carers feel supported, children benefit too.

We're looking forward to spending the day at The Arc Shopping Centre this week and meeting people from across the local community!
