Celebrating Lisieux Way Turning Two!

We had a wonderful time marking the 2nd birthday of Lisieux Way Community Café / Talking Café with our amazing community last week.

It was great to welcome Deputy Mayor Rob Isaacs to discuss future support, and a big thank you to Heidi, Asda People’s Champion, for the generous food and drink donations.

We were also joined by Mark, Digital Champion from Spark Somerset, Annie from the Methodist Church, and the fantastic Taunton Strummers (https://www.facebook.com/groups/160673897276737), who got everyone singing and dancing.

A big thank you as well to our Village Agent Sharon Coles who enjoyed being part of the day which was filled with joy, connection, and community spirit.

This is a story of collaborative working from the outset, with support from the church volunteers and early governance and constitution advice from Carrie Corfe, our Senior Community Advisor. Together, volunteer Pauline and the local community have shaped a welcoming and thriving community space.

Thank you to everyone who made the celebration so special!

Our Digital Time Capsule is now live!

As part of our centenary celebrations, we’re proud to launch a space that honours our past and looks to the future.

Since 1926, we’ve stood alongside local people through changing times, reducing isolation, championing community action, and making sure everyone has somewhere to turn when they need support.

Now, 100 years on, we’re creating a Digital Time Capsule to capture the stories, memories and moments that define our communities today.

We’re joining the Spark Somerset campaign to highlight the difference community support makes every single day.

On Wednesdays, we’re sharing what Somerset would look like without us and why that matters.

This Wednesday will look ordinary, like it does for over 1,900 registered VCSFE organisations in Somerset, plus many more informal and unregistered community groups here in Somerset.

But scratch the surface and what would this Wednesday look like without us?

Last year, 18,854 people across Somerset got the support they needed, that’s 52 per day or 1 in every 30 residents. Without us, where would they turn?

Somerset Activity & Sports Partnership - SASP what would the spotlight reveal this Wednesday?

Emma was paying far too much for bills while struggling to afford food. Working together, we helped her cut costs, switch to lower cost tariffs, and access emergency support. The impact was immediate: her phone plan became free for a year, bills dropped, and that same day she could buy food for the first time in weeks. Small changes, big difference - Emma now feels secure and hopeful.

This life-changing support is made possible by Somerset Council through the Crisis and Resilience Fund. It allows our Crisis Resilience Village Agents to deliver vital help to those who need it most.

Emma was supported through a partnership between Citizens Advice Somerset, Burnham & Weston Energy CIC and Somerset Council. When you come through one door, the others open. We’re working together to ensure everyone in Somerset has access to the right support at the right time, helping to build financially resilient communities.
