Simon's Heroes

Simon's Heroes Simon's Heroes is a charity based in Tamworth which raises money for children in need. A total of 17 members signed up to participate and help raise some cash.

Simon’s Heroes was founded in 2013 after old friends reunited to honour the memory of their friend by holding a charity football tournament. Under the expert guidance of personal trainer Simon McNeilly and Mark Bennett, the group started a programme of weekly sessions to get fit for the event. After the tournament was over, they decided to continue their form of extreme outdoor training and event

participation to help raise money for local children in need. Simon’s Heroes first beneficiary was five-year-old Charlie Blunt, who had cerebral atrophy, a degenerative condition which affected his balance and muscle movement. The group decided to take part in The Winter WOLF Run in November 2013 – a 10K outdoor obstacle course around Stanford Hall in Leicestershire. Funds raised were used to support Charlie on his journey through life. Today Simon’s Heroes has over 40 members who are all dedicated to the cause. The charity has raised £1000's from sponsored events but also generates revenue through other mediums such as hosting quiz nights, fun days, galas and corporate sponsorship. This money is used to enhance the lives of children with life limiting illnesses. To date, this has included the purchase of medical equipment for example, a motorised wheelchair for a teenager with Cerebral Palsy, a custom made equestrian body protector for a kidney transplant patient, which has allowed her to continue her lifelong hobby which had become uncomfortable due to the dialysis tube in her stomach, respite breaks for a number of families who spend a lot of time supporting their children in hospital and at home and home improvements for those who have little time for anything else outside of caring. The charity has also helped make dreams come true, funding treats and experiences for children and their families coping with debilitating illness.

From the Chairman:

Yesterday, fellow charity trustee Kelly Prescott and I had the incredible privilege of attending a garden party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate our charity, Simon’s Heroes, being recognised with the King’s Award for Voluntary Service.

This award reflects the dedication, compassion and hard work of all our members — past and present — who have supported the charity over the years, and it was a real honour to represent them.

It was truly an unforgettable day. We were blessed with beautiful weather, wonderful company and a fabulous lunch. Special guests included HRHs William, Prince of Wales and Catherine, Princess of Wales, Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, Zara Tindall, Peter Phillips, Monica Galetti and Spud Man 😉

We enjoyed music from two military bands, watched the Grenadier Guards in action and explored the stunning royal gardens. A wonderful afternoon tea was served in marquees set across the palace lawns, making the whole occasion feel even more special.

It was a privilege to spend time in the grounds of such a historic place, where kings, queens and so many notable figures have walked before us.

Simon’s Heroes continues to make a meaningful difference to families in our local community, thanks to all our supporters, donors and members, while also creating lasting friendships and bringing me a great sense of personal fulfilment. Yesterday was another very special highlight in that journey.

🌟 Grand Opening Celebration! 🌟

We were thrilled to join in the celebrations for the grand opening of Liberty Jamboree’s brand-new facility in Lichfield! 🎉

Liberty Jamboree, a fantastic charity who empower young people of all abilities through inclusive support, activities, and opportunities, have created a brilliant new space for their community — and we’re proud to have played a part in making it happen.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, Simon’s Heroes contributed to the project by funding brand-new turf for the outdoor area, giving young people a great space to enjoy, and providing Evacuation Chairs to help ensure that the building is safe and accessible for everyone. ♿💚

A huge well done to the entire Liberty Jamboree team on this incredible milestone — we can’t wait to see the positive impact this youth club will bring to local young people and their families! 🙌💫

🌟 A HUGE Thank You to Co-op Church Street! 🌟

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the amazing team and customers at Co-op Church Street, who have donated an incredible £1,000 to Simon’s Heroes from their ongoing book sale! 📚💙

What started as a small table has grown into a fantastic book stand, and thanks to everyone’s support, Co-op Church Street have now donated just over £2,000 to our charity from the book sale. And, the great news is, they have pledged to keep going.

This generosity helps us continue our mission of supporting local children in need, providing life‑changing help right here in our community. 🌈✨

To all the staff who keep the book sale going, every customer who has picked up a book and those who have donated used books —thank you. Your kindness is truly making a difference. 💛
