Returning dormice to where they belong! We’re proud to reveal that we’ve helped People's Trust for Endangered Species reintroduce more than 40 rare hazel dormice to restored woodland in Bradgate Park Trust Leicestershire this week as part of PTES’ annual programme.
Last year PTES carefully released 21 dormice into the same woodland, so this summer’s release will boost the furry residents’ genetic diversity and help bring this native species back from the brink.
Since these first dormice were released, volunteers have recorded 46 nests and evidence of breeding across the woodland, helping to build a resilient connected population that can one day spread throughout the wider Forest.
