❗New Statutory Sick Pay (SSP) rules have been in force since April 2026, introducing important changes to how SSP is calculated, when it’s paid, and which workers are eligible.

For employers, these reforms may already be affecting sickness absence procedures and record-keeping, contractual sick pay schemes, fit note processes, and how they manage short and long-term absence.

🌈 Happy Pride Month from VMG 🌈

Pride is a celebration, but it's also a reminder of why visibility, representation, and inclusion still matter.

The veterinary profession is built on compassion, care, and community. To truly reflect those values, we need diverse voices at every level of our industry. We need LGBTQ+ professionals to feel safe being themselves at work, and we need q***r leaders and managers who can bring their perspectives, experiences, and talents to the table without barriers.

Representation matters. When people can see themselves in leadership, it creates a sense of belonging, inspires future generations, and helps build workplaces where everyone can thrive. Diverse leadership also strengthens teams, encourages innovation, and helps us better understand and support the communities we serve.

Pride exists because equality cannot be taken for granted. It is a chance to celebrate progress, recognise the challenges that still exist, and reaffirm our commitment to creating inclusive environments where everyone is respected and valued.

It’s Vet Nurse Awareness Month and throughout the month, we have been celebrating the brilliant Vet Nurses in our team.
Our final spotlight is on VMG Office and Membership Support Assistant, Sarah Cramp.

"Supporting people was one of my biggest motivations and I found it really hard at times when my team were unhappy and dissatisfied. Unfortunately, I didn’t always have the skills to handle this in the best way which then led to dissatisfaction in my own role, which is ultimately why I left the position.

I now work as the membership support assistant at VMG. Since working at VMG I realise that I was not alone in feeling the way I did, and I would have benefited so much from completing some leadership training such as the CVLM and by joining a community for support such as ShareSPACE. I think Veterinary Nurses make great leaders, often driven by empathy and compassion, but often forgetting to give it to themselves."
