At around 14.20 this afternoon Stonehaven RNLI was tasked by HMCoastguard to a yacht in difficulty just south east of Stonehaven.

On arrival it was found that the yacht's prop was fouled in creel line. The decision was taken to tow her back to Stonehaven harbour.

Great to have local fire fighters from Stonehaven and Inverbervie using our station building for their search exercise training this week. Some of our volunteer crew even posed as casualties to be rescued from inside a building where there had been an explosion.

Always good to work with our fellow reacue services.

A beautiful evening for training. The crew took the opportunity to get a close look at this stunning tall ship, the Fryderyk Chopin, moored just off Stonehaven.

Our volunteer crew are never truely off duty. Stonehaven RNLI boat crew volunteer Keith Scott was on holiday at Wig Bay when he witnessed a boat capsize and sink leaving 3 people in the water. Immediately recognising the seriousness of the situation his RNLI training kicked in and he raced over to the scene and managed to get all 3 into his dingy and safely to shore.

Stranraer RNLI had been paged by HM Coastguard but Keith was in the right place at the right time.

Our crew are always ready 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Congratulations to Stonehaven RNLI boat crew volunteer Mike, who passed his Tier 2 competency assessment recently.

Mike, who has been with the station for 10 years, says ' Volunteering with Stonehaven Lifeboat Station has been an amazingly rewarding experience, meeting some fantastic people and learning many new skills, as well as having the chance to give something back to the local community.'

In his day job Mike works for the Met Office, helping responders to keep people and communities safe from weather impacts.

Sadly this summer there have been a number of tragic incidents in the waters of our coastline. We would like to remind people heading to the beach and on the water to remember one vital lifesaving technique.

● Tilt your head back, ears submerged
● Relax and try to breathe normally
● Move your hands & feet to help you stay afloat
● It's fine if your legs sink, we all float differently
