Open Evening Success ✅

Last Thursday we ran our open evening, which was a great success!

We gave the pupils an idea of what we have to offer, including our Flight Simulators, Robotics, Fieldcraft and Leadership Exercises 🤖✈️.

If your child or someone you know aged 12 (and in S1) would be interested in joining, just send us a message and we’ll give you more information 😀.

2024 Awards Presentation Evening 🎖️

Congratulations to all the cadets who received awards at our presentation a couple weeks ago. We celebrated various achievements, recognising everything from academic excellence to outstanding overall performance.

Award Winners:

🏆 Pathfinder Trophy: FS Smith
🏆 Academic Trophy: Cpl Harper
🏆 Shooting Award: Sgt Taylor and CWO Braidwood
🏆 Best Recruit Trophy: Cdt Begg
🏆 Tiger Moth Trophy: Cdt Edmond
🏆 Sports Trophy: FS Smith
🏆 Best Cadet Runner-Up: Cpl McLoughlin
🏆 Best Cadet: CWO A Braidwood

🎖️Sqn Ldr Nutten, Flt Lt Stephen, WO Donaldson and WO Campbell were awarded medals for 5 years of active service before the King's Coronation.

Wing Commander Cospey was given recognition for service within the organisation in 2021, she was also the previous OC of Highland Wing.

A special thank you to all the Cadets and Staff who helped make the evening a success and for all your hard work and dedication this past year!

We thank Aberdeen Altens Hotel for its hospitality and our Civilian Committee for organising our raffle to raise funds for the squadron.

We can't wait to see what our cadets accomplish in 2025! 💪

Shooting Excellence 🎯

Over the past year, our Cadets have been competing in the Air Cadets National 2 Positional League.

Our A team placed first 🏆 and our B team came an impressive 8th out of the 65 other squadrons that entered.

In the individual competitions, 2 of our Senior Cadets placed in the top three, with Sgt Taylor placing 1st 🥇and CWO Braidwood placing 3rd 🥉.

There has been incredible hard work from both Cadets and Staff. We are proud to say it has paid off 🎉👏

Christmas Quiz❓

Last Thursday, our Cadets took part in our annual Christmas Quiz which was ran by our NCO Team. Featuring plenty of tough questions… but team NOEL came on top 🏆.

Life Saving Skills ⛑️

Last Thursday, we were joined by Mrs Cu***ng & Mr Nakote from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation; a charity that provides information, advice, and support to those with asthma and their families across Scotland.

Our cadets learned valuable skills to help someone with an asthma attack or an allergic reaction and learned about other people's stories and experiences.

Lest We Forget 🌹

Our Cadets and Staff participated in the annual Remembrance Parade and Church Service in Stonehaven on Sunday.

We’d also like to thank the Royal British Legion in Stonehaven for organising and providing soup and sandwiches after the ceremony.

Earlier today, cadets from were out in the community selling poppies to help raise as much money for the Royal British Legion, supporting all the amazing work that they do!

On Thursday, we had a spooktacular evening at our annual Halloween party! 🎃

We solved a chilling murder mystery, enjoyed some delicious spooky snacks, and danced the night away to spooky tunes. 👻

A big congratulations to FS Smith for the Best Costume and Cdt A Gill for the Scariest Costume! 🏆

Success at the SNI Regional Skill at Arms Meeting 🏆.

Our team, comprised of Sgt Strachan, Sgt Abram, Cpl Harper, and Cdt Edmond, put on an incredible performance yesterday, securing 3rd place overall. 🥉

New Achievements 🎖️

Cpl Harper's been putting in the work for the CISSAM competition! 💪

Over the weekend, she tackled 100m sprints and showed off her shooting skills with moving Snap Targets from 100m to 300m. 🎯 After all that hard work she received Silver Advanced Marksman.

Our Junior Cadets have gained skills in First Aid ⛑️ As they just completed their Blue First Aid Training and passed their assessments.

Huge congrats to everyone for their hard work and dedication! 👏

at Mackie’s Wider Achievement Fayre 🏫

Earlier today, our Cadets and Staff were at Mackie Academy showing off our organisation's many opportunities and activities.

We also had our mobile flight simulators on the go, where they could compete in our “London Bridge Challenge” ✈️.

Regional Field Day Success ✅🎯

Today, 3 Cadets from travelled to HMS Caledonia in Dunfermline to represent North Scotland Wing in the Regional Air Rifle Competition.

Here is what they managed to achieve:

🥇 CWO Braidwood - 1st place
🥈 Sgt Taylor - 2nd place

📣Civilian Committee AGM📣
Date: Monday 9th September 2024
Time: 7.30pm
Location: Squadron, Beachgate Lane, Stonehaven AB39 2BD

We invite you attend our Annual General Meeting. All parents and the local community are welcome. Due to several long standing members standing down, we are looking for a minimum for 4 members to join the committee to allow us to continue to support the squadron and cadets.

Squadron cannot function without a working Civilian Committee.

If you want to have a hand in steering what the Squadron does over the next year then the civilian committee meetings are the perfect forum for this.

What is involved in being parts of Civ Comm?

🔹Meeting 4 times a year (usually on a parade night)
🔹Involved in how we fund raise.
🔹Support our fundraising event where possible
🔹Support Squadron staff ensure the cadets get the best experience at 1297.
