Shelby is just 2½ years old, but he has already experienced more uncertainty and heartbreak than any dog ever should.
This lovely Labrador came into our care after being abandoned at the vets on Christmas Day — a time when most pets are safe at home, surrounded by warmth, comfort, and love. Instead, Shelby was left behind, facing an unknown future and desperately needing kindness.
As if being abandoned wasn’t enough, Shelby then suffered a frightening medical episode in which he briefly lost consciousness. After a chat with our vets, Shelby was booked in for X-rays of his throat, chest, and lungs. At first, there were fears that he could have a damaged or collapsed trachea. Sadly, the results brought a different concern: the imaging showed that Shelby’s heart silhouette appeared enlarged, raising the possibility of an underlying cardiac problem.
Shelby now needs to be seen by a cardiology specialist so we can understand exactly what is happening and give him the best possible chance of recovery. The cost of this assessment could be as much as £2,500 — a huge amount, but one that could make all the difference to Shelby’s future.
After everything he has already endured, Shelby deserves the chance to be safe, to heal, and to know what it feels like to be loved and truly cared for.
If you can help by making a donation, no matter how small, you will help us get Shelby the specialist care he needs and bring him one step closer to the happy, healthy life every dog deserves.
