As people head out to today, I really encourage everyone to vote with their heads and hearts not simply based on headlines, fear, or what parts of the media keep pushing about and .

There are much bigger issues happening around us that affect all of our lives every single day. Rising taxes. and concerns about privatisation. Children’s services stretched beyond capacity. More and more food banks opening across the UK and beyond. Families working hard but still struggling to survive.

We need to ask ourselves: who benefits when ordinary people are divided and distracted?

The truth is, the UK has relied on immigration for decades across the NHS, care sector, transport, hospitality, agriculture, and many other industries. Many people who come here also contribute through work, taxes, skills, and community building.

This election is bigger than soundbites and scapegoating. It’s about the future we want for our communities, our children, public services, and the most vulnerable among us.

Please think carefully before you vote. Look beyond the noise. Look at the bigger picture. 🥰

✨️✨️🗳DONT WASTE YOUR VOTE REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR I.D. IF YOUR VOTING FOR SOMEONE YOU NEED THEIR I.D ASWELL.

I am pleased to have recieved this reply from the Conservation Officer, Stockport Council. ✅️✅️✅️

ALWAYS GOOD TO GIVE CREDIT WHERE IT’S DUE, NOT JUST COMPLAINING!!!! Rachel Wise - Labour for Reddish North .

🙌🏾Dear Paula,

Following from my previous email, I have received a confirmation form our ecology team that the Neighbourhood Officer who covers this area has confirmed that the works were undertaken as part of the Winter Works Programme, prior to March, and that as such the risk of breeding birds being disturbed during the works is/was very low.

Best,

Paula Burbicka (she/her)

My email to Stockport Council regarding the recent hedge cutting in our park 🌿

If you feel the same way I do about protecting our wildlife especially during bird nesting season, please feel free to copy, paste, and send.

Our voices matter when it comes to looking after our shared spaces 💚🌺🌻🌼

If this matters to you, 💔 please consider sharing this post or tagging others in the community who care about our parks and local wildlife. The more awareness we raise, the stronger our collective voice becomes.

Formal Enquiry: Hedge Cutting During Nesting Season – North Reddish Park

Dear Parks and Greenspace Team,

I am writing to formally raise concerns regarding the cutting of hawthorn bushes in North Reddish Park, which appears to have taken place in March, during the early bird nesting season.

As you will be aware, hawthorn hedges are commonly used by nesting birds, and there are legal protections in place which make it an offence to disturb or destroy active nests.

Given the timing, I would like to understand how this work was assessed and authorised.

Please can you confirm:

Whether a nesting bird survey or inspection was carried out prior to the works.

What risk assessments and ecological considerations informed the decision to proceed at this time.

Who authorised the work and under what compliance framework.

If no ecological checks were undertaken, I would appreciate clarification on how this aligns with your duties in relation to wildlife protection.

I would welcome a prompt and transparent response. If necessary, I am prepared to escalate this matter to the appropriate environmental bodies for further review.

For transparency, I have copied in the Environmental Health Team.

Kind regards,
Paula

Coming Home has secured funding through the Ministry of Housing - Common Ground Fund.

Every month, we know, we see directly from just one woman’s prison, that 14-20 women are released into homelessness.

Can you imagine juggling prison release with nowhere to go? Expected to turn up at probation, appointments, keep step with Universal Credit requirements and more when you don’t have a safe place to sleep, let alone recover from the prison process?

This funding will allow us to extend our work at the point where it matters most - the moment of release.
Alongside our current homelessness work and various reintegration programmes, we will provide :-
1. Home starter packs that prioritise dignity, not just survival
2. Digital devices and connectivity to prevent immediate exclusion through our device bank loan expansion
3. Practical support that bridges the gap between custody and community

At Coming Home, we believe choice trumps charity.
The women we support have shaped what these packs look like, with items based on what we know, people actually need to live, not just exist.
Its about people, not provision.
It’s about preventing reoffending, restoring identity, and creating stability where the system currently falls short.
We’re grateful to be funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to deliver this work.
It begins today, with our first lady moving from temporary accommodation into her own place.
We’re right ther with her.

Don’t forget you can refer anyone impacted by the justice system and/or homelessness onto our programmes or for support via our websites referral form

Removal of the 2 Child Limit.

Following the Chancellor’s announcement of the removal of the two-child limit in April, we can currently advise all claimants with three or more children that the two-child limit will be removed from assessment periods that start on or after 6 April 2026, as part of the annual uprating exercise.
The higher rate for the first child born before April 2017 will remain.

The Benefit Cap still remains, this is a limit on the total amount of benefits a person or other members of a household can receive. Please refer to Benefit cap: Benefits affected by the cap - GOV.UK for further guidance.

If they haven’t already notified Universal Credit, customers will need to declare any additional children through their Universal Credit account. Once verified, the system will automatically calculate their award. If there is an increase, this will be shown on their statement at the end of the assessment period.

Please advise your customers not contact Universal Credit with questions about their payment until they have seen their statement.- S-rep Stockport
