Cancer Hair Care needs your support!

We’re delighted to be part of the Co-op Local Community Fund.

The fund closes on Saturday 17th October and we currently have 776 Co-op Members who are supporting Cancer Hair Care.

Our Head’s Up community service in Wales recently supported the lovely Sheila [pictured] ahead of a family wedding in the Gower.

Feeling nervous, our Cancer Hair Care Hairdresser Katie gave Sheila lots of care and support ahead of her big event.

Sheila said: “I was really looking forward to my family wedding - it was going to be such a special day seeing family and friends after many months. But I was feeling very nervous about the whole event.

“Cancer Hair Care Hairdresser Katie gave me all the support and encouragement I needed. It was lovely to have my hair washed and be pampered too. I felt much more confident to go out in the world and be with people again.

“This event was an important step in my journey back from breast cancer. It was so wonderful to spend the day with my children and other loved ones.”

Talking to young children about your hair loss

If you need to explain hair loss to young children, we have some helpful FREE resources.

Children learn through play. Our beautiful knitted Hair Loss Dollies turn inside out with hair on one side and no hair on the other.

Complete with little hats and wigs, they help children to understand the hair loss journey. Children can create hats and headwear or let the dolly be bare.

Many people have told us that these dolls have really helped children to gently understand hair loss.

They are ideal to:
* Explain why Mummy is going to lose her hair
* To explain to a young child who is themselves going to lose hair
* For nurses and play therapists working in cancer hospitals
* For cancer support organisations to display and signpost
* For schools and play groups to encourage playing with toys that help children manage ‘difference’
* For alopecia organisations

Please do feel free to request a skin colour and let us know of any favourite colours so that we can pick out a lovely dolly for the little person in your life. Each doll is hygiene and health & safety checked.

If you’re losing your eyelashes due to chemotherapy, we can help you to feel confident to give false lashes a go.

Many people ask if it is OK to put on false lashes during chemo - it is! - and we answer this question and lots more on our website.

We can help you to easily apply false lashes, which can enhance your own lashes, or be used as a replacement during total hair loss.

Picturd are attendees and BACP counsellor / facilitator Denise at a recent Breast Cancer Now workshop in Rayleigh.

Our Cancer Hair Care Specialist Michele delivered an informative session focused on topics including hair loss; new hair growth and headwear options.

Our next Wig Bank Plus Session is in County Down on 4th August.

Hosted by Bridgen King, you can try on and take home a FREE wig of your choice and get wig care tips and wearing guidance.

A HUGE thank you to Eylure for their wonderful donation of lashes, which enables us to support many more patients through their chemotherapy-induced hair loss.

Pictured is Cancer Hair Care’s Lorraine (right) at a recent UCLH - University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust clinic with some fantastic FREE lashes given to teenagers on the wards.
