Free Surplus Food Giveaway – Monday 15th June 2026 at 10:30am

Did you know that every week our volunteers help rescue food that might otherwise go to waste and make sure it reaches local people instead?

On Monday 15th June 2026, we'll once again be opening the doors of the 5&2 Community Centre, Montrose Court, Stapleford (NG9 8LJ) at 10:30am for our latest Surplus Food Giveaway.

What arrives each week is always a surprise. Some sessions bring plenty of bakery items, others may include fruit, vegetables or a mixture of surplus products donated by local supermarkets. Whatever arrives, our volunteers work hard behind the scenes to collect, sort and prepare everything for distribution.

Arrive Before 10:30am

One of the questions we are often asked is why we encourage people to arrive before we open.

The answer is simple: fairness.

Before we begin distributing the food, we look at how many people are waiting and divide the available donations accordingly. This helps ensure as many people as possible receive a share.

If you arrive later, the food may already have been distributed.

What You Need to Bring

🛍️ A clean bag to carry your food home.

🍰 A clean lidded container if you would like cakes or pastries.

Please remember: No container = No cakes or pastries.

This is a food hygiene requirement and applies to everyone attending.

Allergy Information

Loose bakery products may contain or have come into contact with allergens including peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, soya, sesame, mustard, celery, fish, crustaceans, molluscs, lupin and sulphites.

For detailed Lidl bakery allergy information, please visit:

https://www.lidl.co.uk/static/assets/Bakery_Sign_Allergy_Advice_17072023-443072.pdf

If you have allergies or food intolerances, please take extra care and speak to a volunteer if you are unsure.

Supporting Cancer Research UK

There will also be a donation bucket available for anyone wishing to support Cancer Research UK.

This fundraising is in support of Richard MacRae, who will be taking part in the Race for Life 10k at Victoria Embankment on Sunday 21st June 2026.

The food remains completely free, and there is absolutely no obligation to donate, but every contribution helps support life-saving cancer research.

Community supporting community, one food share at a time.

The event planned for this Saturday has been postponed. Will update a new date and time once finalised.

Free Surplus Food Giveaway – Wednesday 10th June 2026 at 10:30am

Every week, good food is saved from going to waste and shared with local people right here in Stapleford.

On Wednesday 10th June 2026, volunteers from Stapleford Community Group will once again be opening the doors at the 5&2 Community Centre, Montrose Court, Stapleford, NG9 8LJ for our latest Surplus Food Giveaway.

The doors will open at 10:30am, and we strongly encourage people to arrive before this time.

Why? Because before we begin distributing the food, we look at how many people are waiting and work out the fairest way to share the donations. The amount and variety of food changes every session, depending on what has been donated by local supermarkets, so arriving early gives you the best opportunity to receive a share.

The food available may include fruit, vegetables, bakery items and other surplus products that are still perfectly good to eat but can no longer be sold.

Please Remember to Bring:

🛍️ A clean bag to carry your food home.

🍰 A clean lidded container if you would like cakes or pastries.

No container = No cakes or pastries.

This is a food hygiene requirement and applies to everyone. Unfortunately, we cannot place cakes or pastries into carrier bags or open containers.

Cakes and Pastries – Please Bring a Container

When collecting cakes and pastries from our surplus food distribution, please remember to bring a clean, suitable container with you.

We are happy to share any available cakes and pastries, but we will not be filling carrier bags with these items. Bringing your own container helps us distribute food safely and fairly while reducing waste.

Please also take the time to read the allergy information that is always displayed at our sessions before taking any food items. Many bakery products may contain allergens including wheat, milk, eggs, soy, sesame, rye, oats, and nuts.

As advised by Lidl, loose bakery products are prepared and handled in environments where different allergens are present, and they cannot guarantee that other allergens are not present due to the risk of cross-contamination.

If you are allergic to any listed allergen, please do not consume the product. It is your responsibility to check the allergy information before making your selection.
