🥖 FREE SURPLUS FOOD – WEDNESDAY 2ND SEPTEMBER 🍎

Another week, another opportunity to turn surplus food into something positive for our community.

Our volunteers will be out collecting surplus food kindly donated by local supermarkets, bringing it back, sorting through everything and preparing it ready to be shared.

Then, from 10:30am on Wednesday 2nd September, we'll be opening the doors at:

📍 5&2 Community Centre
Montrose Court, Stapleford, NG9 8LJ

🛍️ What happens to the food?

It doesn't simply arrive and go straight back out.

Our volunteers work behind the scenes to:

➡️ Collect surplus food from local supermarkets
➡️ Bring it back to the community centre
➡️ Sort and organise the donations
➡️ Share the food fairly with those who attend
➡️ And, when we know someone needs a little extra help, we can sometimes put together and deliver hampers.

It's all part of our aim to reduce food waste while supporting people in our community.

⏰ Please arrive BEFORE 10:30am

We ask everyone to arrive before we begin.

We need to know how many people are attending so that we can work out how best to share the food available.

The amount of surplus food varies from one collection to another, so turning up late may mean the food has already been shared out.

🛍️ PLEASE BRING A CLEAN BAG

You'll need a clean and hygienic bag to take your food away.

And if cakes or pastries are available:

🍰 You MUST bring a clean, hygienic lidded container.

NO CONTAINER = NO CAKES OR PASTRIES.

This is a food hygiene requirement and applies to everyone.

⚠️ Allergy information

Please remember that bakery products may contain or have come into contact with allergens including peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, wheat, soya, sesame, mustard, celery, fish, crustaceans, molluscs, lupin and sulphites.

If you have an allergy or food intolerance, please take care when selecting bakery items and speak to a volunteer if you're unsure.

At the heart of the is a simple belief:

Good food shouldn't be wasted when it could be helping people.

From supermarket collection, to sorting, sharing and sometimes delivering hampers, our volunteers give their time to make a difference.

So whether you're a regular visitor or you've never been along before, you're very welcome.

☕️ Monday Morning at the 5&2 Community Centre – 31st August

Sometimes it's not just about the food. It's about having somewhere to go, someone to talk to and knowing you're part of a community. ❤️

We're doing things a little differently this Monday, with the 5&2 Community Centre opening from 10:00am for anyone who would like to pop in for a drink, a chat and a friendly welcome.

Then, at 10:30am, our volunteers will be sharing the surplus food collected from local supermarkets.

Our volunteers collect surplus food from local supermarkets on the morning of the giveaway. Once it arrives, it is sorted and then shared with the community.

Every session is different. We don't know exactly what food will be available until the donations have been collected, but the aim remains the same – rescue good food from waste and put it to good use.

⏰ Please arrive before 10:30am

We ask people to arrive before the food giveaway starts so we can see how many people are attending and work out how to share the available food as fairly as possible.

If you arrive later, the food may already have been distributed.
