Paxton Pits Nature Reserve is a rich mosaic of wildlife habitats, with beautiful lakes, riverside, meadow, reedbed, scrub and woodland. The reserve is managed by Huntingdonshire District Council, supported by t

he Friends of Paxton Pits, a registered charity with nearly 2000 members. As well as raising vital funds for the Reserve through various activities and events, the Friends provide thousands of hours of volunteer time in areas including practical conservation, wildlife surveying and staffing the Visitor Centre. The Friends also produce publications, including leaflets and the annual report on the birds and wildlife of Paxton Pits, and run the Reserve’s website. Paxton Pits Nature Reserve is always open to visitors. The Reserve consists of 77 hectares of lakes, meadows, grassland, scrub and woodland next to the River Great Ouse and there is a network of paths so you can enjoy a wealth of wildlife all year round. The Visitor Centre is open every day from 10am to 4pm, except Christmas Day and is subject to the availability of volunteers. The toilets are open every day. The Visitor Centre is staffed by Rangers and Volunteers who are happy to give information about the Reserve and wildlife sightings. In the Visitor Centre you can buy light refreshments and snacks, pick up leaflets and buy secondhand books. You can join The Friends Of Paxton Pits Nature Reserve and The Kingfisher Lottery, which help to support the Reserve.
