We have been made aware of this page which is mimicking the official Government website and luring people in with the possibility of financial assistance.

THIS IS A SCAM WEBSITE.

And it is preying on those who are often in the most financial hardship.

It looks authentic at first glance but there are giveaway signs - the URL for starters. And the navigation links to other topics all return error messages.

Please do not be tempted to click on the link and divulge any personal information.

If you see this, or any other suspect websites, texts, emails, you can report them to the National Cyber Security Centre by visiting Action Fraud and following the relevant instructions.

Stay alert and stay safe.

Warm Home Discount and Winter Fuel Allowance

Scam warning

Pensioners & Benefit Claimants warned to stay alert as winter fuel payment scams increase

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is warning pensioners to look out for Winter Fuel Payment text message scams.

This warning comes as the DWP launches its social media campaign in partnership with Action Fraud to raise awareness of these scams across Facebook and Twitter. This is alongside DWP’s continued work with trusted partners and charities such as Independent Age to ensure accurate and timely information is available.

Winter Fuel Payments are made automatically, and the government will never ask for bank details by text. Winter Fuel Payments will automatically be paid into people’s bank accounts between mid-November and December 2025.

People can report HMRC-related scam and phishing attempts to HMRC by forwarding emails to [email protected], reporting scam phone calls via GOV.UK, or forwarding suspicious texts to 60599.

Individuals who have received a Winter Fuel Payment text and are concerned, can call the Independent Age free helpline on 0800 319 6789. An advisor will be able to assist.

Energy costs are set to rise again - and with the colder months now creeping in, we know this is a worry for most.

This Thursday, 18th September, PECT will be at The Citizen Hub to deliver a workshop. If you are interested in coming along, please drop us an email on [email protected] for more details and to register.

This training run by PECT will equip you with the knowledge needed to help budget adequately for heating and energy. During this session, you'll learn about managing heating costs at home.

It will be an interactive session where you will give answers to questions in a fun environment and there will be lots of opportunities to ask questions at the end as well as have a one-to-one conversation with the PECT team after the session if you feel more comfortable doing this. You can also have an energy advice call with the team moving forward to discuss how things are going particularly with winter coming in the next few months.
