The Collection contains documents, photographs and recordings relating to the history of Southam, its people and surrounding area.

The Collection consists of over 10,000 historical items specifically relating to the town of Southam in Warwickshire, England. These are looked after by volunteers, who share their local knowledge and skills to help preserve, research and display some of them in exhibitions. Monthly local history articles are written and history books published.

This hard-working farmyard relic is an authentic vintage Chicken Poultry Feeder/

Here is the history behind it:

• Clever Gravity Feed: Designed for durability out in the yard, the sloped lids kept rainwater and pests completely away from the contents, while the interior was configured to drop feed down automatically as animals ate.

• Stepped Design: The distinct two-tiered structure allowed poultry of different sizes to feed comfortably.

🏆 BOOK IN THE WINDOW RESULT 🥉 WE CAME THIRD🥉

The results are officially in from the Southam Book Festival, and we are absolutely thrilled to announce that our Alice in Wonderland display for the “Book in the Window” competition came 3rd Place overall! 🥳✨

Out of 24 fantastic, creative entries displayed by businesses all across the town, our little window display in the Tithe Place Atrium managed to claim a podium spot.

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who followed our clues, took part in our trivia riddles, and went down to check out Entry Number 19 in person. Your feedback and lovely comments throughout the trail have made the whole team incredibly proud.

🧩 REVEAL WEDNESDAY 🧩

This beautifully preserved apparatus is an authentic vintage Fireman's Home Call-Out Alarm 🚨

Long before the days of smartphones, pagers, and instant text messages, local emergency services had to rely on rugged, hard-wired engineering. Here is the true history behind this incredible piece of local lifesaving heritage preserved in our archive:

• The Emergency Summons: These heavy-duty bell units were installed directly inside the bedrooms or hallways of Southam’s volunteer firefighters.

• Race Against Time: When an emergency call came into the station, the system would trigger these home alarms simultaneously. The internal hammer would strike the polished metal gong, filling the house with a deafening ring to instantly summon the firefighter out of bed or away from the dinner table.

• To the Rescue: On hearing the alarm, volunteers had to immediately drop whatever they were doing and sprint down to the station to man the fire engine and race out on a rescue mission.

It stands as a fantastic, tangible reminder of the dedication of Southam's local heroes who kept our community safe across generations.
