What a wonderful celebration for the first birthday of the Knowle & Dorridge Memory Café! 🎂The tea dance was a tremendous success, featuring fantastic dance demonstrations and plenty of enthusiastic participation from our members. Robert & Liz from Rhythms Dance led a brilliant session that got everyone moving and smiling. We ended the afternoon with a delicious buffet that everyone enjoyed.A heartfelt thank you to Phil, Director of Unique Care, for officially opening the event, and to the Madam Mayor of Solihull for attending and wholeheartedly embracing the celebration. Special thanks also go to Robert & Liz for their energy, enthusiasm, and for helping to make the day so memorable.

🎉 Celebrating One Wonderful Year at The Knowle & Dorridge Memory Café! 🎉

It’s hard to believe, but it’s already our first anniversary. We’re so grateful to everyone who has been part of the journey.

To mark this special occasion, we’re inviting all our members to join us for a Tea Dance Celebration filled with music, movement and memory-making.

🕺 Rob and Liz will be joining us to showcase some of your favourite dances including ballroom, jive and line dancing. After the demonstration, it’s your turn to take to the floor.

💃 For those who prefer to stay seated, we’ll also have the hand jive, so everyone can join in the fun no matter their mobility.

🎤 We’re honoured to welcome a special guest who will officially mark the occasion.

🥪 To finish, we’ll enjoy a light lunch together and a chance to share stories and laughter.

We look forward to celebrating this milestone with you. It wouldn’t be the same without our amazing community.

“Due to catering arrangements, we’re only able to welcome existing members to this event. However, we’d be delighted to see you at our next session on 24th June!”

Crafting helps those living with dementia express themselves, spark memories, and find calm through creativity. 🧡

Thank You to the wonderful

🧡 Well, what a treat we had at this week’s Memory Café session!🧡 Ozzie was a real hit, he had everyone up on their feet, singing and dancing!🧡 He left our members wanting more and we’re thrilled to say he’ll be back!🧡 Singing and dancing aren’t just fun, they’re incredibly beneficial for those living with dementia.🧡 These activities help stimulate memory, lift spirits, and bring people together — and that’s what our sessions are all about 💛

💜🌻 This week at the Memory Café, it was all about planting perennials and sunflower seeds!
Members enjoyed getting their hands in the soil and carefully planting vibrant flowers a calming activity that sparked smiles and conversation all around.

💜🌱 Planting stimulates the senses:
Handling soil, seeing colorful blooms, and smelling fresh plants can awaken memories and provide comforting sensory experiences for those living with dementia.

💜🧠 Encourages focus and purpose:
Gardening activities like planting perennials and sunflower seeds give a sense of achievement and help maintain cognitive functions through gentle routine and attention.

💜🤲 Boosts emotional well-being:
Being in nature and nurturing plants can reduce anxiety, lift spirits, and promote a sense of peace — all essential for emotional health in dementia care.

💜🌼 Supports social interaction:
Group gardening encourages connection and conversation, creating meaningful moments with peers, carers, and volunteers at the Memory Café.
