It's Small Charities Week!

So, here's a fitting reminder to support your favourite small charity (Esteem, of course) by popping a few pennies in the virtual collection tin ahead of Emma's abseil on Sunday 28th June.

https://www.justgiving.com/page/emma-edwards-esteem

Yes, in the early (ish) hours of Sunday morning, our intrepid CEO will head up to the top of the Brighton i360 only to jump out of the pod and make her way back to the ground via a rope.

Eek!

Just four more sleeps, Emma!

We're out in nature once again! 🌿For Over 18s Drop In last Monday we travelled up to Stanmer where Urban Forage led us on a fantastic foraging tour.

As we made our way around, we got to identify some of the local plants - both edible and toxic. We also had a great time trying various herbs, plants and fruits (the edible ones!)

Many thanks to Urban Forage for giving us the opportunity to connect with nature in a fun, engaging way - we hope we can come back again in the autumn for some mushroom foraging! 🍄

High winds and the threat of rain didn't deter 20 teams of paddleboarders as they took to the water at Hove Lagoon for Speedee Boarding 2026.

Seasoned paddleboarders competed side-by-side with complete novices, which resulted in all sorts of shenanigans on the water, some very soggy contestants, and much hilarity from the assembled audience of supporters!

Lots of fun was had by all, despite the gusty conditions, and we wanted to give a very special Esteem shout out to Bruce Bignell at his team from Evolve - Pipedrive CRM Experts . Not only did Bruce win the British Bulldog round, but he chose us as his team's charity, and made a generous donation to support our work.

Here's to next year! (We're already praying for sunshine!)

On Sunday 28th June, our Chief Executive Emma Edwards will abseil 410 feet* from the top of the Brighton i360 to raise vital funds for our continued work.

She said: "Esteem is a community where young adults can connect, grow and thrive. I see the difference our work makes all the time. I hear directly from young adults about the impact it’s had on their lives and I get to see that transformation up close.

"They step outside their comfort zones every day, so it feels only right that I do the same and take on something that pushes me too!"

The abseil is being organised by the Focus Foundation and Emma was generously gifted the chance to take part.

It was a delight to welcome Councillor Julia Watts to Esteem last week, in her new capacity as Chair of Adur District Council.

We invited Julia in to find out more about the work we do to support young adults, and to see for herself how we've made The Old School House our home over the years. CEO Emma and Partnerships Lead Shelle took her on a tour of the building and shared the magic of Esteem.

Julia got to meet Trevor, our volunteer chef, who was cooking up a batch of meals for our drop-in session, as well as a number of the young adults working on different projects around the building. She also met Nina, our Youth Work Manager, and heard about the range of programmes and support services we offer.

Wishing you a great year in office, Councillor Watts. We're looking forward to working with you!

At the very heart of the transformational work we do at Esteem is a network of awesome volunteers. As a non-profit organisation, we simply couldn't operate without them.

To celebrate Volunteers Week 2026, we invited them to our courtyard here at The Old School House in Shoreham-by-Sea for a few hours of snacking and chatting.

Staff were joined by young adult volunteers, trustees and mentors, and the event gave us the perfect opportunity to say a huge THANK YOU and spend some quality time with them. 😍💚🎉

If you would like to consider supporting the incredible work we do to transform the lives of young adults in some way, then drop us a line at [email protected]

What a brilliant day to be a part of the Shoreham-by-Sea community!

Members of the Esteem staff team were out and about, firstly helping the Adur East Lions Club set up for the big Family Fun Day in Buckingham Park, then popping to listen to some of the bands playing at the Beach Dreams Community Festival on Coronation Green, via a wander through our lovely town centre for a spot of shopping and a coffee!

The wind died down, the rain stayed away and the sun shone for a while. We even managed a sneaky photo with Elvis!

Hats off to all the organisations and volunteers who made these brilliant events happen, including Adur East Lions, SOLD, The Shoreham Allstars and Over the Moon The Shoreham community is lucky to have you!

Only a few more days to visit the Q***r Worlds exhibition in Worthing! 🌈

We had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with Videoclub to bring the creative works of q***r filmmakers to life. This exhibit features 15 short films that have been specially curated by young adults, exploring themes such as identity, belonging, neurodivergence and more.

You can check out the Q***r Worlds gallery at Colonnade House In Worthing until Sunday 7th June (this weekend!)

There's still a few days left to come and check out the Cherry Blossom Project at the Phoenix Art Space in Brighton. 🌸

Young Adults at Esteem recently had the opportunity to contribute to the 4,800 hand-stitched cherry blossoms that decorate the exhibit. A massive thank you to Sara who kindly ran a session at Esteem, guiding us through the process of creating cherry blossoms for the project, which will be on display at the Phoenix Art Space until Sunday the 7th of June this weekend.
