Skateboarding, climbing, kayaking, camping, sailing, orienteering, cycling, hiking, grass sledging, potholing... South Yorkshire Scouting is all these things, and more. Scouting is about personal development through providing opportunity. It encourages young people of all backgrounds, male and female, to have self-belief and a voice; to develop physically, intellectually, socially and spiritually.

We call this everyday adventure. They just call it fun. We believe that young people develop most when they are 'learning by doing', when they are given responsibility, work in teams, take acceptable risks and think for themselves. Why do we believe that? Well, because they told us. Scouting is a youth movement, meaning its the young people that drive it forward. To provide everyday adventure to young people we need adult volunteers. These adults not only benefit from supporting young people, they also gain from developing themselves and learning new skills. All of which they apply to their everyday working lives. There are lots of flexible volunteering opportunities to suit you and your needs, whatever the amount of time you have to give.

Notice for anyone visiting Hesley Wood

Use of Fires at Hesley Wood 🔥

Given the continued dry weather and heightened fire severity index, Hesley Wood Scout Activity Centre have made the decision to ban all open fires and BBQs until further notice. This does not include gas BBQs.

We know for some this will be disappointing but safety is our main priority and we all have to play our part in reducing the risk.

Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office who will be happy to help.

Tonight, the lovely Hope Is Here interns came and met the Beavers and taught us all about Christianity and the Baptist Church!

The Beavers sang songs, played games, learnt about how a church service goes and even got to go in the baptismal!

Thank you so much for giving up your time to come see us 🇺🇸✝️
