Bute Writer's Group Everyone has a story to tell, until you try, you won’t know what you might find

Thursday 15th January
Blue was the prompt this week. Members were invited to write a list of items relating to the colour Blue. From their list they were to select three items and include them in their story.
One member wrote about a Blue period in Objective Art which was held in a Blues Club with a blue carpet. Next was the story of a blue Bower bird building it’s nest to attract a partner. We sympathised with a 14 year old girl in the 1960’s growing up in a small town in Scotland who longed for a pair of the new fashion trend of blue jeans and her attempt to make a pair of her own. We accompanied a couple who narrowly escaped certain death in the Thailand Tsunami 2004.
What Blue item would you have written about?

Thursday 11th December

Members had a choice of prompt today, as we are approaching the winter solstice, Out of the Darkness into the Light or New Year.
First was a poem based in Jarrow on the river Tyne at New Year, a story about Mandy being kept in a cold dark cellar for years, the build up of waiting for the Strauss New Year concert live on TV and a widow feeling low at Christmas in the dark Scottish winter until she receives a call from a family member living in Australia complaining about the heat.

The Group is having a Christmas break and will be back on 8th January 2026. Hope to see you then.

Thursday 27th November
The prompt today was A Winter's Tale
Stories from members today included A field mouse struggling to survive in frozen conditions, a roof being blown off a home during a young girls sleepover, a poem involving a perfume bottle shaped like a star, a child growing up in poverty dreaming of a skiing holiday, a trip to Vienna to visit Christmas markets, a walker venturing out into the frozen countryside intervening in a fight between a cat and birds and a family who relocated to the country discovering wild deer in their garden.
