Met this lovely couple at Scalpsie who were visiting Bute for the first time. They had sailed here to be part of the Fife Regatta and were looking forward to some fine sailing in the area.

A good beach clean today at Ettrick Bay. Most of the litter was made up of small rope filaments, of which there were many thousands! Takes a lot of litter picking to fill a bag but worthwhile.

Low tides meant the tractor and box easily got down onto Ardmaleish shore to retrieve this heavy gas cylinder from the shore. Huge thanks to friend of Beachwatch, Dougie McDonald for his help.

Big thanks to SULA Collective for hosting this event and donating the £24 raised to Beachwatch Bute. Sharing the lovely message from Laura. ❤️

“It was £2 from each ticket sold from our World Turtle Day Session - £24 in total. Kids learned about turtles, the effect of marine litter, watched a video I took of a turtle laying on a beach in Cape Verde, they made their own turtles, read a story about turtles and the effects on marine life. They also made an under water scene to take home” ###

After making a guest appearance at the recent Conserve our Coast Event in the Winter Garden, Tarbh na Muraige (The Flotsam Bull) was off on his travels again! He is visiting St Andrews Primary School and will be there for a few days. Alan, the caretaker of the school, ensured that he has a nice spot of grass to enjoy while there! Created by Vicki Last, who is the Marine Litter Development Officer for Scottish Islands Federation, he was made entirely from marine litter found on the shores of Argyll & Bute. We are grateful to her for allowing us to have him here on the island.

Please come along and support this FREE event... Tickets for the screenings will be limited, so don't hang about!

5 DAYS TO GO UNTIL OUR CONSERVE OUR COAST EVENT

Fantastic FREE event at The Bute Community Winter Garden - tickets for the Ocean screening must be secured in advance https://wegottickets.com/f/19549

A DAY OF CELEBRATION AND COLLABORATION IN HONOUR OF THE 100TH BIRTHDAY OF SIR DAVID ATTENBOROUGH

We’re holding an extra-special event at Rothesay’s Winter Garden on Friday 8th May from 10am till 3pm focused on our precious natural environment.

We will celebrate the 100th Birthday of Sir David Attenborough by hosting two FREE screenings of Ocean, his most recent stunning, inspiring and award-winning documentary.

We will also be screening The Bay, a short film by Doug Anderson, a BAFTA and EMMY award winning underwater cinematographer who has worked with David Attenborough on Blue Planet, Frozen Planet, Wild Isles and Ocean. Doug will then hold a virtual Q&A session after which we will invite islanders to collaborate together to preserve, enhance and conserve our coastal and marine heritage.

Pupils from Bute’s schools have been invited to participate and local groups involved in conservation and protection of the natural environment of the island will be sharing information about their work, including a short film about Bute Community Forest.

Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day in our kiosk and sandwiches and cakes will be available to buy from Tattie Bagel.

This event is FREE and open to all. However, due to restricted seating in the cinema the free tickets to the screenings of Ocean will need to be booked in advance- https://wegottickets.com/f/19549
