Bodiam Castle NT Step into medieval history at Bodiam Castle. The exterior is virtually complete and the ramparts rise dramatically above the moat. It helps us to learn and grow.

This 14th century moated castle with ruined interior features spiral staircases, battlements and a portcullis, making it one of Britain's most picturesque and romantic ancient monuments. One of the most famous and evocative castles in Britain, Bodiam was built in 1385 as both a defence and a comfortable home. Enough of the interior survives to give an impression of castle life. aircases and battlements to explore, and wonderful views of the Rother Valley from the top of the towers. In the impressive gatehouse is the castle's original wooden portcullis, an extremely rare example of its kind. House rules: ​

We have a duty to protect our staff and volunteers, so while deleting comments is totally out of character for us, our position is that any post containing a libellous accusations, should be removed. We’ll also remove any posts that in any way target individual teams or members of staff. We will not comment on our staff and volunteers in this way in public forums. If any correspondent has feedback to share about any individual members of staff or teams in the organisation, please get in touch with us directly. If an individual continues to post offensive, threatening or libellous content then we’ll be forced to block that person from the page. Similarly, if any individual repeatedly posts contributions of the nature noted above in the 'material' list, we'll again be forced to block that individual from the page (in this scenario, we will have previously warned the individual about their content).​

As one of our closest neighbours at Bodiam, we’re delighted to support Bodiam Castle who are taking part in Heritage Open Days this weekend, 12th & 13th September, with FREE entry!

Why not make a full day of it and travel to Bodiam by heritage railway with the Kent & East Sussex Railway?

Start your journey at Tenterden Town Station, where you can take advantage of FREE car parking, then climb aboard and enjoy a relaxing journey through the beautiful Rother Valley to Bodiam.

From Bodiam Station, it’s just a 10-minute walk to Bodiam Castle, making the railway a great way to travel and enjoy the journey as part of your day out.

If you’re a senior, don’t forget our Senior Saver Special – just £20 per person throughout September.

Discover the secret world of graffiti at Bodiam Castle and uncover the hidden stories etched in the walls! 🏰

Led by a member of the conservation team and accompanied by BSL interpreter Kelly West, these small-group tours explore the castle's historic graffiti, from stonemasons' marks to protective witch marks, revealing the traces left by those who came before us.

The tour includes castle access and simultaneous BSL interpretation.

Find out about how the National Trust is continuing to invest in Bodiam Castle through the brand-new interpretation project, ‘The Keys to the Castle’, which brings the historical people and stories of the castle to life in playful and engaging ways.

Our Archaeologists are nearing the end of their dig here at Bodiam Castle! 🪏

Due to popular demand, we've added an extra archaeology tour for Monday 24th August at 11am.

Join National Trust archaeologists as they take you on a tour of a live archaeological dig. Archaeologists will share their extensive knowledge of the history and archaeology of Bodiam as you explore the dig site, learn about the finds and watch excavations in action!

Be quick, this is our final session and it's due to sell out quickly!

£8 for Adults and £4 for Children with admission | 24 Aug, 11am.
