This week we decided to ask one of our team, Alex, if she'd be happy to write a little something about her experience of being a Job Coach on the Supported Apprenticeship programme for a social media post. What she shared was so lovely to read...

"Becoming a Job Coach at Little Gate was the best career move I have made.

I have been working as a Job Coach for over 3 years and absolutely love working alongside young people during their apprenticeships and work experience, supporting them as they build confidence, learn new skills and overcome challenges along the way.

Seeing the young people we support achieve things they may not have thought were possible and then watching them progress into permanent employment in a job they enjoy and are suited to, is incredibly rewarding.

Being part of their journey, celebrating their successes and seeing how far they can come is what makes my job so worthwhile.

I’m very proud to say I work for Little Gate and to be part of a team that helps young people build their confidence, develop their skills and move towards a future they can feel proud of."

Thanks Alex!

Shay is one of our trainees at the farm site. Recently, we asked him some questions about his experiences at Little Gate. Heres what he had to say:

'The thing I enjoy most about the farm is learning and developing all these new skills. I think they are all beneficial and important for paid jobs. What makes it easier is I am surrounded by very supportive staff members who always help me. They make my days easier and I wouldnt be where I am today if it wasnt for them." 💡

"I have definitely improved my communication because of the farm. Before, I never used to talk to anyone. You would be lucky to get a conversation out of me. I think now I am one of the chattiest people and I thinks thats because of the amazing people here. Its just been so easy to improve my communication." 💬

Feedback like this from our trainees really spurs us on and shows what an impact it is having on the individuals we serve. We are so proud of Shays development and are grateful for him sharing his experience 🌟

One of our brilliant job coaches, Alex, sent us this photo of Jack in the first week of his apprenticeship and we loved how happy Jack looks, don't you?! 🙂

We asked Jack if he'd be happy for us to post it on our socials and whether he wanted to say anything about how he's finding it... he shared "Bit nervous, but I am enjoying learning how to use different programs and software that I haven't used before, and am looking forward to learning about the different venues that Play Sport supports as well as potentially visiting them at some point". 🏑⚽

Karmen, Play Sport's office manager, added: "We’re delighted to welcome Jack to the team as our new Business Apprentice. Over the next 18 months, Jack will be working alongside us while completing his apprenticeship. We’re really excited to have him on board and can’t wait to see him develop, learn and become part of the Play Sport family. We’re also thrilled to be working with the fantastic team at Little Gate!" 🫶

If you're an employer local to us here at Little Gate and interested in working with the Supported Apprenticeship team, please do get in touch via [email protected], we'd love to hear from you!

Another celabratory post, this time for Kiera! 🎉

Kiera has been a real pillar of the Little Gate Farm team, having been with us since 2020. She has developed her practical skills, confidence and motivation and is a different person to when she started with us. Whether it be splitting logs, walking alpacas or making some of the best cakes the farm has even seen, Kiera has given it her all.

She has also developed her work skills, and is leaving with an impressive CV. From paid roles, to work experience and even volunteering, Kiera has gained a wealth of knowledge.

We are all so proud of Kiera and wish her all the best for her future endevours! 🌟

We had a fantastic time attending the Hastings Careers and Recruitment Event at The Hastings Centre, The Ridge, on Wednesday 30 September.

Kat, Justin and Sally, were on hand throughout the event, chatting to visitors about the opportunities available at Little Gate Farm. Meanwhile, Tracey-Anne spent time connecting with local employers and building new relationships.

A special mention goes to Sally, who brought along some beautiful flowers grown at our farm, which made our stall look especially welcoming.

It was great to meet so many people, have some inspiring conversations, and share more about what we do. As we're currently recruiting, it was particularly rewarding to speak with individuals interested in joining our team.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to say hello.
