Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week 2026 💜

From a young girl with a passion for sport to an inspiring young leader, Janey’s journey is a fantastic example of where opportunities, determination and support can take you!

Janey’s journey began in S5, at Johnstone High School, when she secured a place on the Renfrewshire School of Sport Programme, opening the door to a whole range of opportunities and experiences. Following the programme, Janey continued volunteering with Active Schools, supporting clubs, sports days and events such as the Paisley 10K. She also became a Young Ambassador for her school before going on to study Sports Development and Coaching at the University of Stirling.

Today, alongside her studies, Janey continues to work with Active Schools and is part of the Young Women in Sport Leadership Programme, developing her skills, confidence and knowledge while connecting with other inspiring women in sport. 🙌

Reflecting on her journey, Janey shares:

“Sport is very important to me as it has allowed me space to grow, bounce back and challenge myself every single day. To all women and girls thinking about getting involved, JUST DO IT! It is so incredibly rewarding, not only for yourself but for the opportunity it gives you to uplift and inspire so many other people around you. The opportunities are truly endless!”

We are incredibly proud of how far Janey has come and love seeing her turn the opportunities she was given into opportunities for others. 💜

A huge well done to all the girls who took part and gave it their all! A special thank you to the Sports Development class from Park Mains High School for organising and delivering the festival, with our young female leaders playing a fantastic part in making the event a success! 🌟

Our Dance Leaders Programme, led by Natalie and Sam, is off to a fantastic start, with 22 young leaders taking part this year! 🕺

So far, our leaders have been developing their skills and confidence, completing Child Protection training, a workshop with YDance and model sessions training, all helping to prepare them for their leadership journey. Next up, our young Dance Leaders will be putting their skills into practice through volunteering placements in local schools, gaining valuable experience and inspiring the next generation to get involved in dance!

We’re looking forward to bringing everyone back together in January to catch up on their progress and continue developing their skills.

A huge well done to all 22 leaders, we can’t wait to see what you achieve this year! 🪩

this October!

What a fantastic week of sport, activities and plenty of fun across Renfrewshire continuing our 2026 Summer of Sport programme!

From our Multi-Activity Camp at ON-X to Dance and Gymnastics at Gryffe High School, there’s been something for everyone! Our Outdoor Activity Camp has also been busy paddleboarding, biking and gorge walking, embracing the good old Scottish weather along the way! 🌧️ We’ve also had some fantastic Multi-Sports Sessions across Paisley and Erskine, keeping even more young people active throughout the holidays.

As part of the national Summer of Sport initiative, we’re continuing to create opportunities for children and young people across Renfrewshire to get active, try new activities and have fun! A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the week such a success.

What a week! We can’t wait to get stuck into the second half of Term 1 and see everyone back in schools and out in the community! 💪

What a fantastic day of football at our Johnstone & Linwood Girls Football Festival last week! 👏

It was brilliant to welcome approximately 100 P6/7 girls from 10 local primary schools for a fun-filled festival of football, teamwork and lots of smiles!

It’s great to see so many girls getting involved in football, building confidence, developing their skills and enjoying the opportunity to represent their schools.

A huge thank you Mairi for hosting the festival at the ON-X in Linwood, and to our two referees from St Benedict’s High School for their fantastic support throughout the day! Thanks also to all the school staff and parents for their continued support in making events like this possible.

Well done to all the girls who took part, a brilliant day of girls’ football! ⚽️

A huge well done to our Active Schools Coordinators Emma, Nicole, Amy and Mairi, who all took part in the Great Scottish Run last week in Glasgow 👏

Emma, Nicole and Amy took on the Half Marathon, while Mairi completed the 10K! 🥇

It’s fantastic to see our team getting active, challenging themselves and leading by example, both in and out of work.

A fantastic achievement all round, and they should all be so proud of themselves! ❤️

The big question now is… who can they convince from the team to join them next time? 👀
