Don’t forget!
Free blood pressure checks THIS FRIDAY (9th) open to the public 1pm-2:30pm @ Radstock Community Hub & Library.

FREE BLOOD PRESSURE CHECKS & ADVICE
AT RADSTOCK FOOD CLUB, RADSTOCK LIBRARY, BA3 3PR
ON FRIDAY 7TH AUGUST 2026. 1PM - 2:30PM

***These are open to anyone to drop in - you do not have to be a Food Club member.***

The drop-in sessions, run by the NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire ICB, will encourage the public to understand and monitor their blood pressure, take early action where necessary and reduce their risk of heart attacks, strokes and other cardiovascular conditions.

Gill May, Chief Nurse Officer at BANES, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board said:

“High blood pressure is responsible for more than half of all strokes and heart attacks and preventing it is a key priority for the local health and care system.

“Many adults living with high blood pressure remain undiagnosed. Without detection and appropriate intervention, it can increase the risk of having a stroke, heart attack or heart failure.

“That’s why we’re getting out and about in our local communities to host these drop-in events. They will allow us to raise awareness of this hidden killer, help to prevent heart attacks and strokes and, ultimately, improve the health of our local population.”

Don’t forget - free and open to the public - pop in 1pm -2:30pm!

We're pleased to be working with the Radstock and Midsomer Norton Lions Club to supply their "Message in a Bottle - Emergency Information Scheme" bottles to our members and supporters.

How the scheme works:

- A bottle is supplied which contains a pre-printed form and two green cross stickers. The user fills in the form that contains information that clearly identifies them, basic medical details, emergency contact numbers, any allergies, etc.

- The form is put back in the bottle and then stored in the fridge. One of the green cross stickers is put on the door of the fridge and the other is put on the inside of the front door. If two people live in the house, then they both fill out a form and both forms are stored in the same bottle.

- In an emergency, the presence of the green cross stickers will alert the emergency services to the presence of the “Message in a Bottle” and they would search for it in the fridge. The message will give the emergency services information on any conditions or allergies that the patient suffers from. If a patient is taken to hospital then the form is taken with them and given to the hospital staff on arrival. The “Message” helps the hospital staff find the relevant records and arrange treatment as quickly as possible.

If you would like a bottle for yourself and/or any vulnerable friends and family, please message us or the Lions Club.

So you know someone that could join our team of trustees and help shape the future of Radstock Food Club?

So you know someone that could join our team of trustees and help shape the future of Radstock Food Club?

Who do you know that would make a brilliant trustee for SWAN?

We're looking for passionate people to join our Board of Trustees and help shape the future of SWAN.

Perhaps you know someone who is thoughtful, community-minded and wants to make a real difference. They might have experience in finance, HR, marketing, fundraising, business, or simply a passion for supporting local people. Previous trustee experience isn't essential, as we'll provide an induction and ongoing support.

As a SWAN trustee, you'll help guide a charity that connects people with vital transport, tackles loneliness, and supports access to affordable food; helping people live more independent lives across BANES.

Could someone you know be the perfect fit?

Tag them in the comments (if you think they'd be happy to be tagged), share this post, or send them a link. Better yet, make an introduction; we'd love to have an informal chat with anyone who'd like to find out more.

Together, we can keep communities connected.
