Job Title: Bookings Administrator

Hours: 18 across 3 days (ideally one of the days a Monday, but flexible)

What a lovely event and a brilliant way to tackle isolation in our community

☀️ A lovely afternoon celebrating our wonderful volunteers! ☀️

Today, SWAN and Radstock Food Club joined together with The Carers' Centre for a very special volunteer get-together… and what a lovely afternoon we had!

SWAN has been working with the Carers’ Centre for many years. Our volunteer drivers help adult carers get to and from the centre so they can attend vital wellbeing groups, access support and enjoy some much-needed respite in the company of others who understand their situation.

Over the past 12 months alone, SWAN volunteers have undertaken 215 journeys for the Carers’ Centre, supporting 33 individuals to access this incredible organisation.

The sun shone for us, and we all enjoyed a cream tea with huge dollops of clotted cream, generously donated by Ivy House Farm to help us say a big thank you to the volunteers who do so much for our community.

We also had copious amounts of strawberry jam, kindly donated by Radstock Co-operative Society Marcroft store, and our scones came fresh from our local bakery, Muffins, who very kindly gave us a charity discount. A big thank you to Frederika and the team – they were delicious!

We had garden games, pebble decorating and presented certificates to our volunteers as a small way of showing our appreciation for everything they do.

But most importantly, the afternoon was a chance for our volunteers to relax, have a chat, share some laughs and stories, and hear first-hand from the Carers’ Centre team about the difference their support makes.

The volunteers at both SWAN and the Carers’ Centre make such a difference to the lives of people across B&NES. Their time, kindness and commitment help people stay connected, maintain their independence, and feel supported and heard.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the afternoon so enjoyable, and to the Carers’ Centre for hosting us. We hope everyone had as much fun as we did!

We’re looking forward to putting on more volunteer events and get-togethers in the coming months.

“If it wasn't for SWAN, I would be housebound.”

That's what one of our passengers told us.

Another told us SWAN means their daughter can get to her work placement.

Another said their brother is able to stay living in his own home.

Another simply said “I know you are there.”

Behind every one of those stories is something very ordinary - a car journey.

And very often, behind that steering wheel is a volunteer.

SWAN really needs more of those wonderful people, particularly in and around and .

We're looking for patient, kind and reliable people who could offer one regular journey a week.

- You don't need professional care experience
- You don't need endless spare time.
- You don't need to commit your whole week.
-
You need a car, a little time and a willingness to help.

We'll organise your DBS, provide your induction and training, pay 55p per mile plus parking expenses while you're on SWAN duties, and our friendly team will be here to support you.

Our volunteer drivers tell us: “It could be me one day, needing help. That's why I do it.”

Perhaps that's worth thinking about.
