📸 RVPS WEEEKLY PHOTOGRAPHY CHALLENGE
🎃 SPOOKY SEASON! 👻

With Halloween just around the corner, this weekend we're challenging you to capture something spooky, mysterious or atmospheric! 🕸️

👀 Look out for:

🌫️ Misty landscapes and eerie woodland
🕷️ Spiderwebs and creepy crawlies
🎃 Pumpkins and Halloween decorations
🌳 Silhouettes and twisted trees
🏚️ Old buildings and mysterious doorways
🕯️ Shadows, candlelight and dramatic lighting
🍄 Strange and unusual fungi

📷 THE CHALLENGE: Create a photograph with a spooky or mysterious atmosphere. Think about lighting, composition and mood!

✨ BONUS CHALLENGE: Can you make an ordinary everyday object look spooky using just your camera and lighting?

Today marks World Mental Health Day 💚 and UK Fungus Day 🍄, so we're bringing the two together for this week's photography challenge!

Spending time outdoors with your camera can be a wonderful way to slow down, clear your mind and appreciate the little things around us.

Head outdoors and discover the fascinating world of fungi! 🍂

📸 Tonight at RVPS – Let’s Move Practical Workshop!

Join us this evening for a hands-on practical night exploring creative ways to capture movement and motion through photography.

Please bring your camera, tripod, a fully charged battery and plenty of enthusiasm!

You don’t need a dedicated camera to take part—visitors are very welcome to come along woth their cameras or why not try the activities using a mobile phone. Phones can produce some fantastic creative results too!

It’s a great opportunity to experiment, practise new techniques and learn alongside fellow photography enthusiasts

📸 RVPS Weekend Photography Challenge
🎨 ONE COLOUR
It’s Friday, which means it’s time for another RVPS Weekend Photography Challenge! 📷
This weekend, we want you to choose ONE COLOUR and make it the star of your photograph.
🔴 Red
🟠 Orange
🟡 Yellow
🟢 Green
🔵 Blue
🟣 Purple
🩷 Pink… the choice is yours!
Once you've chosen your colour, start looking for it wherever you go. It could be:
🌸 A flower or plant
🚪 A colourful door
🚗 A car or bicycle
🏙️ Street or architectural details
🍎 Food and everyday objects
👕 Clothing or accessories
🐦 Wildlife
🍂 Something beginning to show its autumn colours
📷 The challenge: Don't just photograph something because it's colourful. Think about composition, light and background and make your chosen colour the first thing that draws the viewer's eye.
✨ BONUS CHALLENGE: Find your colour against a contrasting or neutral background and see how much more it stands out.
📱 And remember, you don't need a fancy camera — phones are absolutely welcome too!

📸 RVPS Weekend Photography Challenge
🔁 PATTERNS & REPETITION
It’s Friday, so it’s time for another RVPS Weekend Photography Challenge! 📷
This weekend, we want you to look for patterns and repetition. Once you start looking, you’ll be surprised how often they appear around you!
Your pattern could be created by:
🪟 Windows or architecture
🧱 Brickwork and paving
🌻 Flowers, leaves or plants
🌳 Trees and woodland
🚧 Fences, railings or posts
🌊 Ripples and patterns in water
☀️ Light and shadows
🎨 Repeating colours
🔷 Shapes, lines and textures
🏠 Everyday objects around the home
📷 The challenge: Use repetition as an important part of your composition rather than simply photographing a pattern.
✨ BONUS CHALLENGE – Break the Pattern!
Find a repeating pattern and include one thing that's different. It could be a different colour, shape, direction or object. Use that interruption as the focal point of your photograph. 👀
You don't need any special equipment for this one — a camera or phone is all you need.

📸 Our 2026/27 season starts tomorrow! 🏁
We’re kicking off the new Ribble Valley Photographic Society season with a fantastic presentation from Paul Dunmall on Motor Sport Photography.
📅 Thursday 10 September
⏰ 7pm
📍 Knowle Green Village Hall
Paul will be sharing his experience of photographing the speed, action and excitement of motorsport — a great evening for anyone interested in action photography, whether you’re already shooting fast-moving subjects or would simply like to learn more.
It’ll also be lovely to welcome everyone back after the summer and get another season of photography underway! 📷
New members and visitors are very welcome. Come along, meet the club and see what RVPS is all about.

📸✨ Our RVPS Exhibition has moved to Longridge Library! ✨📸

After a fantastic stay at Whalley Library, our Ribble Valley Photographic Society exhibition has now moved on to Longridge Library, where it will be on display from 4 September to 1 October 2026.

The exhibition features a wonderful selection of photographs taken by our members, showcasing a wide range of subjects, styles and creativity.

If you’re in Longridge over the next few weeks, pop into the library and have a look — we’d love for you to see the work our members have produced. 📷

A big thank you to Longridge Library for hosting us, and to everyone who visited the exhibition while it was in Whalley. ❤️
