Supporters Survey 2026 – You Asked Us, We Asked Them and They Answered

The Academy – Past, Present and Future

In our 2026 supporter survey, one of the biggest topics raised in the open question box at the end of the survey was the Academy.

If we go back to the Guildhall, many supporters will remember the vision that was presented for developing our own “Britneys and Justins” through the Academy and into the first team. It was presented as an important part of the club’s long-term strategy to become more sustainable.

Ten years on, we are still waiting for an Academy graduate to establish themselves as a regular first-team player. There are increased hopes that Toby Steward could become that player, but what about the wider group coming through behind him?

Are we genuinely optimistic about the current crop? Do we have the right recruitment strategy, facilities, coaching and player-development structure in place to attract and develop young talent, both locally and from further afield?

Has there been sufficient progress? What has changed over the last decade? And what are the club’s long-term plans for the Academy?
These were just some of the questions raised by members in our survey.

We are therefore delighted that Andrew Cullen (AC) and the recently appointed Head of Academy, James Barlow (JB), along with Sporting Director, Rich Hughes (RH) agreed to an exclusive written interview covering all aspects of the Academy.

On our website we have just published an article with reference to the work of PST Board Member Ashley Brown, highlighting the journey towards an independent football regulator. From the lessons learned through his own experiences to the campaign for meaningful reform. It also looks at the role Ashley has played, and continues to play, in championing supporter representation, improving football governance and shaping the debate that led to the State of the Game report.

We all remember the incident involving the young supporter and the Cardiff player. Everyone had an opinion but what did we do and why this approach?

The Pompey Supporters’ Trust Board is delighted to announce an exclusive members-only evening with the three key decision-makers at the Club: Andrew Cullen, Richard Hughes and John Mousinho.

Members will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to the people making the big decisions at Portsmouth Football Club.

And before the Q&A, members will receive an exclusive video update from owner Michael Eisner.

Southampton v Pompey - Ticket Prices

Tomorrow, once again, supporters are expected to pay up to £40 for a ticket to watch their football club, on top of the cost of travel due to the “bubble” arrangements.

As with last year, we encouraged Portsmouth Football Club to seek a reciprocal pricing arrangement with Southampton, whereby the clubs would jointly agree a lower matchday ticket price for visiting supporters. This approach has been used successfully by other clubs in the Championship to help reduce costs for travelling fans.

This offer was again put forward by Portsmouth Football Club. Our understanding is that, whilst progress was made in discussions, no agreement could ultimately be reached.

Whilst it is positive that discussions took place, it is disappointing that, particularly in the current economic climate and with the additional cost of travel arrangements for this fixture, no agreement could be reached to reduce the financial burden on supporters.

As a Supporters’ Trust, we will continue to work with the Football Supporters’ Association to campaign for a cap on away ticket prices in the Championship, an approach that has already been successfully implemented in the Premier League.

The South Coast Derby is the most anticipated fixture of the season for Portsmouth and Southampton fans. We are disappointed that, for some, it has once again become an opportunity to squeeze the loyalty of supporters for more money.

Football supporters deserve better.
