That lightbulb moment hits different 💙

Getting diagnosed as an adult can bring up so much at once - relief, sadness, clarity, even anger. Suddenly all those years of feeling “different” or wondering “what’s wrong with me?” start to make sense.

The truth is, there was never anything wrong with you. You were navigating the world with a brain that works differently, without the understanding or support you needed.

A late diagnosis isn’t the end of the story - for so many people, it’s the beginning of finally understanding themselves. 💙

This is where it all began 🏁💙

Back in 2018, Gary Booth - a 30-year stroke survivor, founded Chequered Flag Motorsport, driven by his own battles with discrimination and ignorance.

What started as a passion project became a registered Community Interest Company by 2020, and it’s been changing lives through the world of motorsport ever since.

It began with a simple mission: to raise awareness and create rehabilitation opportunities for fellow stroke survivors. But over time, Gary realised his experiences struck a chord with so many more people.

Today, CFM is here for the whole neurodiverse community - including those with autism, ADHD, PTSD, and amputees. Anyone whose brain works a little differently to what’s considered “normal” has a place with us.

Here’s what we’re all about:

👉 Unique motorsport-themed events designed to support rehabilitation, reintegration and overall wellbeing for people with long-term neurological conditions

👉 Becoming part of a genuine, like-minded community

👉 Access to professional coaching around mindset and mental health

👉 An environment built on sharing and support - learning from others who’ve faced the same challenges and emotions

👉 The chance to try things you never thought possible, building real confidence along the way

👉 And above all… to feel and be treated as NORMAL

This is CFM. Born from Gary’s journey, and built for everyone still finding their way.

October is Dysautonomia Awareness Month 💙

Dysautonomia affects the autonomic nervous system - the part of the body that controls things we don’t even think about, like heart rate, blood pressure, digestion and temperature.

It’s often described as “not rare, just rarely recognised.” So many people live with it for years before getting answers, and some don’t yet know it’s what they’re dealing with at all.

That’s exactly why awareness matters. The more people recognise the signs, the sooner others can get the understanding and support they need. 💙

If you know, you know 😅💙

The state of ADHD assessment waiting lists right now is honestly heartbreaking. Years-long waits, little to no support in the meantime and people left to navigate everything completely on their own.

And while you wait, life carries on - work, relationships, daily struggles, all without the answers or help you need.

It shouldn't be this hard to access support. Everyone deserves to be seen, heard and helped without waiting years for it.

The nightly battle continues 😅

You're shattered, you've got an early start, and yet your brain decides 3am is the ideal time to overthink, over-plan and replay that awkward thing you said in 2015.

For so many neurodivergent people, the moment everything finally goes quiet is the moment the mind gets loudest. It's not a lack of trying - some brains just don't come with an easy off switch.

If yours is wide awake right now… same. You're not alone. 💙

Anyone else's brain pick 3am as the perfect time to think about everything ever? 😅

You're exhausted, you want to sleep but your brain suddenly wants to replay old conversations, plan your entire future and question every decision you've ever made.

For a lot of neurodivergent people, the quiet of night-time is when the mind gets loudest. It's not that you don't want to rest - your brain just doesn't come with an off switch.

If you're reading this at 3am… you're not alone. 💙

It's one of those comments that sounds harmless but can be really invalidating.

Whether it's stroke recovery, a neurological condition, or a neurodivergent brain, what people see on the outside is often just a tiny snapshot. They don't see the fatigue, the effort, the masking or everything it takes just to appear "fine."

Looking okay and feeling okay are two very different things. A little understanding goes a long way.

To everyone else, it's a simple yes or no. But for so many people living with chronic illness, neurodivergence or recovering from a stroke, every decision comes with a hidden set of calculations.

How much will this cost me? How long will I need to recover? Is it worth the flare, the fatigue, the overwhelm that might follow?

If this is your reality too, we see you. And you're not alone.

After a stroke, the brain has to work so much harder to do the things it once did automatically. Regulating energy, filtering out noise, processing conversations - it all takes far more than most people realise.

That's why even small, everyday tasks can be completely draining. It's not laziness and it's not something you can just "push through."

If you're navigating post-stroke fatigue, be patient with yourself. 💙

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is so much more than "being tired." It's a complex neurological condition that can affect every part of daily life - and because it's largely invisible, it's often misunderstood.

Rest isn't laziness. Looking "fine" doesn't mean feeling fine. And doing less isn't a choice - it's a necessity.

A little understanding goes a long way. If you know someone living with chronic fatigue, patience and compassion mean more than you realise.
