UK Men's Sheds Association

UK Men's Sheds Association We are the UK Mens Shed Association, bringing together sheds from across the UK, and promoting their good work.

Our mission is to enable access to a Shed for every man who wants it. We are UK Men’s Sheds Association, the support body for Men’s Sheds across the UK. We work hard to inspire and support the development of as many Men’s Sheds as possible, for the benefit of men’s health and wellbeing. We are a member organisation, representing UK-based Men’s Sheds. We raise awareness of the Men’s Sheds movement

and the many benefits of Shedding and we support Men’s Sheds in getting off the ground and thriving as community-driven, member-led entities. We don’t own or manage Men’s Sheds, but we champion them for miles around. Our mission is to enable access to a Men’s Shed for every man that would benefit from one and we won’t stop until we’ve achieved it.

🪚 What happens when four local residents decide their community needs a Shed?

For St Martins Shed at St Martins Community Centre in Lambeth, it led to new friendships, community projects, volunteer support from Diageo, visits to fellow Sheds across London, and plenty of shared learning along the way.

From building benches for a community garden to exploring plans for a future workshop space, their story is a great example of how Sheds grow — one conversation, one project and one helping hand at a time.

Most importantly, it shows the power of Shedders supporting Shedders, with advice, tools, encouragement and ideas helping a new Shed find its feet.

🧡 It started with a brew... and ended in Greece.

The latest edition of Shoulder 2 Shoulder is packed with the kind of stories that remind us Sheds are about much more than workshops.

This month you'll find Shedders restoring local history, celebrating a decade of community impact, setting sail on a Greek adventure, and proving once again that when good people come together, interesting things tend to happen.

If the latest edition hasn't landed in your inbox, don't worry. You can catch up on previous newsletters and sign up for future editions on our website.

After all, you never know where the next Shed story will begin. 🧡

🧡 During Volunteers' Week, we're taking the opportunity to celebrate the people who give their time to make Sheds stronger.

Not because they have to. Not because they're looking for recognition. But because they care about the people around them.

Our Shedder of the Year, Rob Taylor from Medway Men in Sheds, is a brilliant example.

After facing significant challenges of his own, Rob found support through his Shed. Over time, he became one of the people helping to provide that support to others.

Whether it's research, fundraising, governance, administration, networking, checking in on members, or simply being there when someone needs a chat, Rob gives his time generously to help his Shed and community thrive.

The nomination from his fellow Shedders, for the UK Mens Shed Awards 2025, says it better than we ever could:

"He will often say that we are a lifeline to many of our members, but he is our lifeline, and I don’t know what we would do without him. He brings strength to the backbone of our organisation and therefore he offers strength and hope to the wider community."

Sheds are full of people like Rob. People who quietly give their time, knowledge, kindness and support to help others.

We'd love to hear about someone in your Shed who makes a difference. 🧡

🧡 It's , and we'd like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who support UK Men’s Sheds Association.

Our Trustees, Ambassadors, and everyone who gives their time behind the scenes to help the movement grow. Whether you're visiting Sheds, sharing your experience, supporting events, representing us in your community or helping shape what comes next, we couldn't do it without you.

Of course, we know that's only part of the story.

Across the UK, Sheds themselves are powered by volunteers. The people who manage them, open up in the morning, organise activities, look after the tools, sort the paperwork, make the tea, welcome new members and somehow keep everything running week after week.

Many Sheds are run entirely by volunteers. Others would struggle to function without them.

The thing about Shed volunteers is that they rarely make a fuss. They just get on with it.

So this Volunteers' Week, here's a huge thank you to every single one of you. The time you give, the skills you share and the welcome you offer make a real difference to people's lives.

👇 We'd love to hear about the volunteers in your Shed.

Who's the person that keeps everything ticking over? Give them a shout out in the comments and let's show them some appreciation.

These creative projects were delivered, installed and put to good use many months ago, but they're still a brilliant reminder of the difference Sheds make in their communities every day.

Made by the team at Bridge of Don and District Men's Shed , they represent just a small selection of the items the Shed has built, restored and enhanced using products provided through our partnership with Ronseal UK & Ireland.

From schools and nurseries to community spaces and local residents, these Shedders are always happy to roll up their sleeves and help out. Give them a project, some tools and a decent brew, and chances are they'll find a way to make it happen.

Bridge of Don & District Men's Shed is a fantastic example of what happens when skills, generosity and community spirit come together. Add a bit of support from partners like Ronseal, and even more good things can happen.

The sun is still shining after a scorching Bank Holiday weekend ☀️ — and all across the country, people have been enjoying outdoor spaces built by Shedders… sometimes without even realising who made them.

Benches in parks, planters outside community centres, picnic tables and quiet little places to sit with a cuppa in the sunshine. Sheds have a habit of quietly making communities nicer places to be 🌼

Over at Bordon Men's Shed, Shedder Ted Wood has been doing exactly that — building two handmade planters linked by a seat for Kingsley Community Centre using mostly reclaimed pallet wood. Kingsley supplied the paint and preservative to tie everything in with the existing archway, and the finished result looks right at home 🪴🪚

A proper community project, built to be enjoyed in the beautiful weather ☀️

If you’re out enjoying the sunshine this week, stay safe, keep hydrated, and grab some shade when you can 💧

Five years.
Countless conversations.
Probably several “this could work?” buildings that definitely couldn’t work.
More than a few garages full of tools waiting patiently for their moment…

But now it’s official — BenShed has a new home. 🎉

On a sunny day in Benson, Oxfordshire, the community turned out in force to celebrate the opening of Benson Community Shed’s (BenShed) new premises in a former Youth Centre in the village.

With a large main hall, extra rooms, and years’ worth of carefully collected tools finally coming out of garages and into workshops, the building is already being transformed into a brilliant community space.

Huge congratulations to everyone involved. Finding the right home for a Shed is never easy, but the persistence and hard work of the BenShed Shedders has clearly paid off. 🔨☕

If your Shed is on its own journey to find a new premises, just a little reminder that there are some handy hints in the resources area of our website: https://menssheds.org.uk/mens-sheds-resources/

💬 Shedders are great at turning any space into the perfect home 👀
