Mounts Bay Marine Group We want to protect the marine life of Mount's Bay and help the communities of the bay to learn more

The waters around Mounts Bay give home to an amazing diversity of marine life. It is such a special coastal environment that Mounts Bay was designated a Marine Conservation Zone in January 2016. The Mounts Bay Marine Group aims to protect and conserve our local marine environment as well as shout out about all the amazing marine wildlife that can be found here. We aim to:

1.Promote marine biodiv

ersity in the Mounts Bay area
2.Collate and record marine wildlife information that could be used to support conservation efforts
3.Encourage awareness of both the challenges and threats to all marine life
4.Gather more information on all marine activities occurring in the local area

If you want to get more involved please join the page or email [email protected].

Last weekend the season kicked off for the 4th successive year of Mount's Bay Marine Group's Seagrass Surveys. A detailed map of the Seagrass beds in the bay continues to build up and return visits to key areas to monitor change are underway. This information is proving invaluable in planning onward conservation of this precious resource. Similar work is being carried out in St Austell Bay and some of our colleagues from there took a trip out west to join us for this first event of the season.

If you want to learn more about our work and the importance of Seagrass you can contact us via our website. Also we will be at the Penzance Community Day in Morrab Gardens in Penzance tomorrow from 11:00 until 15:00, why not drop in to say hello 😊

Unfortunately we have needed to cancel this particular event in view of the consistent forecast over recent days for high winds at exactly the same time as the Rockpool Ramble. Winds that are strong enough and coming from an adverse direction to cause safety concerns. As great as these rambles are, safety has to come first.

We will be organising more events during the season and hope we hit better weather windows.
