Tweed Togs

Tweed Togs Tweed Togs is a volunteer-led children’s clothing bank in the Scottish Borders, aiming to reduce clothing poverty. We have created a 50 /50 Club.

By sourcing excellent-quality preloved clothing, we provide a week's worth of clothing to every referred child. Over the past few years our team of volunteers has grown , and the support we have had from businesses and organisations has been fantastic!! This has allowed us to support hundreds of families throughout the Scottish Borders. Tweed Togs supplies good quality, donated children's clothin

g from birth to twelve years of age. These clothes are lovingly washed , ironed and put in gift bags. We can only accept referrals from Health Visitors, Social Workers , Headteachers and other Family Welfare Professionals. Tweed Togs have no direct link with the recipients. 🌟 THE IMPACT OF VOLUNTEERING 🌟

At Tweed Togs, our service is anonymous because we never want families to feel worried about asking for help.

As a result, we rarely hear directly from the children and families receiving our clothing parcels. However, we do receive feedback from the professionals and agencies who request support on their behalf, and their words remind us just how important our volunteers' work truly is. 💛

As Volunteers' Week draws to a close, we invite you to enjoy this montage of just a few of their comments.

Thank you to every volunteer who gives their time, care and kindness to help local children and families. 🌟

Every outfit selected.
Every parcel packed.
Every load of washing.
Makes a difference.

💛 A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS 💛

As part of Volunteers’ Week, our Patron Suzanne ,The Batch Lady, wanted to share this heartfelt message with every single Tweed Togs volunteer:

“To the volunteers of Tweed Togs: thank you. Thank you for your time, your patience, your skills, and your kindness. Washing, ironing, wrapping and delivering, these are acts of love, even if they don’t always feel glamorous. But they matter deeply.
Because when a child receives a Tweed Togs package, they’re not just receiving clothes. They’re receiving something that says: you matter. Something that says: you are valued. Something that says: someone took time and care just for you.”

🫶This is soo very true, every clothing parcel prepared by our volunteers carries kindness, dignity and compassion 🫶

To all our volunteers — thank you for the difference you make every single day.🙏

✨ VOLUNTEER STORY — MEET VIV ✨
Retirement for Viv didn’t mean slowing down — it meant finding a new way to make a difference 💛
Viv joined Tweed Togs just four months ago and has already become a valued member of our volunteer team.

“My name is Viv and I've been volunteering with Tweed Togs for just over 4 months. I recently retired from a full-time job and was keen to keep busy in my retirement. After searching a few volunteering opportunities Tweed Togs jumped out at me. I like the idea of recycling clothing but most of all the thought that we are helping children/families who may be in need. There's nothing more rewarding than choosing, ironing and packing our lovely donations into bags for their onward journey.
The volunteers at Tweed Togs are very friendly and have been most welcoming and it feels like one big family. The service relies heavily on volunteers so if you have a few hours to spare and could prepare or launder children's clothes give Tweed Togs a go. You'll find it most satisfying.”
And as if that wasn’t enough, Viv has also joined our brand-new Fundraising Group 🎉
This group will play a hugely important role in helping Tweed Togs continue to grow and support even more children and families across the Scottish Borders.
Thank you Viv — we’re so lucky to have you 💛

💛 VOLUNTEER STORY — MEET ALISON 💛
At Tweed Togs, we’re all about giving good-quality children’s clothes another life… and it turns out volunteers can be recycled too 😄
Alison first joined Tweed Togs around five years ago before stepping away when life got busy — but thankfully, just like one of our favourite donated hoodies, she found her way back to us!

Here’s Alison’s story in her own words:
“Hi, I’m Alison and I’ve volunteered at Tweed Togs on and off for around 5 years. During a career break, I saw a school email from Tweed Togs and joined as Trustee and Secretary. I admired the amazing work they were doing and was keen to help local children and families. Personally it also gave me a confidence boost having been away from the workplace for several years.
My circumstances changed and I left the Trustee position but really missed being more involved. So much so, I rejoined last year as a Referral Co-ordinator. It is very rewarding dealing directly with the agencies requesting referrals and coordinating their deliveries. A few of us share this role on a rota basis so it’s flexible and supportive.
I genuinely love being part of Tweed Togs! They are a fabulous welcoming bunch of volunteers. The service is responsive, personal and straightforward to access and provides practical, tangible support to families. The feedback is both heartbreaking and heartwarming - a little help can go a long way.
There are different ways to volunteer and every contribution helps - no matter how much or how often. It’s great to give something back and you can get so much out of the volunteering experience yourself.”

Thank you Alison for everything you do for Tweed Togs and the families we support 💛

🌟 VOLUNTEERS’ WEEK 2026 🌟
This week we’re celebrating the incredible people who are the heart of Tweed Togs 😍
Tweed Togs is entirely volunteer-led, which means every single clothing parcel, every delivery, every fundraising application & every behind-the-scenes task happens because someone chooses to give their time, care and compassion to help local children and families.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life, but they all share one thing in common: a passion for making a difference.
Over the coming week, we’ll be sharing stories from two of our amazing volunteers, along with feedback about the impact their kindness has on children & families facing difficult circumstances.
To every person who gives their time to Tweed Togs — thank you.🙏
You are truly making a difference every single day 💛

🌙🧦 JAMMIES FOR JUNE 🧦🌙
A huge thank you to all at FHSD for choosing to support Tweed Togs this June through their fantastic Jammies for June initiative 💛

Throughout the month, Fiona & her dancers will be collecting donations of:
✨ New pyjamas
✨ New socks
✨ New pants/underwear
for local children aged 12 years and under.

At Tweed Togs, every clothing parcel we provide includes brand-new underwear, socks and a set of PJs. While we are proud to recycle and rehome excellent-quality pre-loved clothing, we believe these particular items should always be new — helping preserve the dignity, comfort & well-being of every referred child.

If you attend FHSD and are able to donate, every pair of socks, pair of pants or cosy pair of pyjamas will help a local child feel warm, comfortable and cared for 🫶
💛 Thank you to everyone at FHSD for their kindness & generosity.
