Today marked a truly significant milestone at the GRI Wildlife Discovery Centre in Lusaka National Park, as together with our valued partners at the of National Parks & Wildlife, we proudly hosted the official launch of seven General Management Plans (GMPs) for Zambiaโs protected areas โ including the GMP for Lusaka National Park.
We were deeply honored to welcome our Guest of Honour, Rodney Sikumba, whose leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in driving the development and delivery of these critical frameworks. More than policy documents, these GMPs represent a bold and actionable roadmap for the future of Zambiaโs protected landscapes โ creating a foundation for meaningful collaboration between government, private sector, and non-profit stakeholders to safeguard biodiversity, empower communities, and strengthen Zambiaโs growing tourism economy for generations to come.
It was especially meaningful for the Wildlife Discovery Centre to host this landmark occasion. In a full-circle moment, Minister Sikumba officially opened the Centre in 2022, and todayโs event marked his final official engagement under his current term as Minister of Tourism.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude for his exceptional support, passion, and dedication to conservation and tourism in Zambia. His impact will be felt far beyond today, in the enduring protection of our wild spaces and the opportunities they create for people and nature alike. We wish him every success in the journey ahead.
