Blue Acre Horse Rescue

Blue Acre Horse Rescue A small Charity dedicated to the rescue, care, and Rehabilitation of abused, neglected or abandoned horses & ponies. https://www.blueacrerescue.co.uk/

Blue Acre Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre was started in 2002 by Caron North and Bob Regan, with one rescued horse named Blue (whom the centre is named after) to keep Carons horse, Raffles, company. Caron owned Raffles for over 20 years and her knowledge, dedication and passion for horse care is second to none. She also has an inherent connection with young people and has been responsible f

or changing many young lives. Fast forward to current times
- we are asked to take in so many horses and ponies in the UK who, simply don't "live up to expectations" or who may have served their owner well for many years but are no longer suitable and a younger model is required!.
- Due to irreverent breeding of certain cob type ponies, many are simply surplus to requirements and they are usually abandoned simply for being males. During 2020 -2021 we rescued 4 foals who had been abandoned at 3 - 4 months old where their mothers had been removed, leaving them without the nutrition they need to grow and without the ability to learn the skills they need to live with other horses. From our perspective, these youngsters deserve the chance of a better life but also come with a steep learning curve requiring training over a few years, particularly if they are colts (which is, often the case) so they will need gelding at some stage. A lot of requests for us to take horses are often simply due to them no longer being rideable and therefore being seen as a very expensive pet (It's not just dogs that are for life - horses live into their 30's). For us, this is a hard decision as it can mean ongoing medical costs and we have to seriously consider whether we take on a horse or possibly sign a death certificate. We can't save them all, much as they all need help we have to calculate the potential effect it might have on our commitment to the current residents. Recent times have made it a real struggle to survive but we are still here . We operate on a 42 acre farm in Old Windsor and are a registered charity. We are also registered for Gift aid. Please consider a donation if you can - no one is paid for their services and 100% of donations goes towards the care of our animals. We currently care for 48 horses and ponies; chickens and ducks; 3 goats and 2 pigs (every one of them rescued). We are run by a small team of unpaid volunteers and rely on event revenue; street collections and donations from the public to survive. If you are able to help fund raise or can afford a small donation we would be so grateful. Bank details:

πŸ’™ Meet Caesar & Connie! πŸ’™

Some friendships really do stand the test of time. 🐴🐴

Caesar and Connie are both 26-year-old Argentinian Thoroughbreds, and after their careers as polo ponies, they found their forever home here at Blue Acre Horse Rescue six years ago.

Since then, they've been inseparable. Whether they're grazing side by side, enjoying a peaceful snooze in the sunshine, or wandering the fields together, these two are the definition of best friends.

Now happily retired, Caesar and Connie are living life at a gentler pace, surrounded by care, companionship, and plenty of love.

Watching them enjoy their golden years together is a wonderful reminder of how every horse deserves a safe and happy retirement.

🐴✨ The Gypsy Cob Gang have been up to mischief again... ✨🐴

Whilst Guinness and Diesel have been happily roaming the fields with the rest of the herd, it seems they've managed to get themselves into quite the pickle! πŸŒΎπŸ‚

From twigs to who-knows-what tangled in their magnificent manes and tails, these handsome boys looked like they'd been collecting souvenirs from every corner of the fields! πŸ˜†

Our wonderful volunteers brought them in for a well-deserved pamper session, spending plenty of time grooming, detangling and getting them looking their best again.

πŸ’™ A huge thank you to everyone who helps keep our rescue horses happy, healthy and handsome.

Now the big question is... how long will it last before they're back out decorating themselves all over again? πŸ˜‚

We wouldn't have them any other way! πŸŽπŸ’•

πŸ’› Meet Dill! πŸ’›

Don't let her tiny size fool you... Dill is very much the boss around here!

Our lovely 23-year-old Shetland pony has called Blue Acre Rescue since she was 5 months old, and she's become a much-loved member of the herd.

Whether she's enjoying a good bath, soaking up plenty of cuddles, or keeping a watchful eye on her field mates, Dill knows exactly how she likes things done!

She may be one of the smallest residents at the rescue, but she's got one of the biggest personalities. Confident, cheeky, and full of character.

Dill is proof that the best leaders don't always come in the biggest packages. ❀️

β˜€οΈ A Beautiful Summer... But a Difficult One for Our Horses πŸ’›πŸ΄

We've all been enjoying the glorious sunshine, but for us at Blue Acre Horse Rescue, the lack of rain has had a huge impact.

Our fields, which would usually provide plenty of grazing, have become dry and depleted much earlier than expected. That means we're having to feed our precious winter hay reserves to keep our horses happy, healthy and well-fed.

Each bale of hay costs Β£80 and we are currently using 4 a week, so our stock is disappearing much faster than we'd planned.

Every contribution, no matter the size, helps us ensure our rescued horses continue to receive the care they deserve.

We know times are tough, and we're so grateful for every share, donation and word of support.

Without our amazing community, we simply couldn't do what we do. ❀️

If you'd like to help keep our horses fed through this challenging summer, please consider making a donation today.

Together, we can make sure every nose in our care has a full hay net. 🌾🐴

Thank you for always standing by Blue Acre. πŸ’™
