Blue Acre Horse Rescue

Blue Acre Horse Rescue A small Charity dedicated to the rescue, care, and Rehabilitation of abused, neglected or abandoned horses & ponies. https://www.blueacrerescue.co.uk/

Blue Acre Horse Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre was started in 2002 by Caron North and Bob Regan, with one rescued horse named Blue (whom the centre is named after) to keep Carons horse, Raffles, company. Caron owned Raffles for over 20 years and her knowledge, dedication and passion for horse care is second to none. She also has an inherent connection with young people and has been responsible f

or changing many young lives. Fast forward to current times
- we are asked to take in so many horses and ponies in the UK who, simply don't "live up to expectations" or who may have served their owner well for many years but are no longer suitable and a younger model is required!.
- Due to irreverent breeding of certain cob type ponies, many are simply surplus to requirements and they are usually abandoned simply for being males. During 2020 -2021 we rescued 4 foals who had been abandoned at 3 - 4 months old where their mothers had been removed, leaving them without the nutrition they need to grow and without the ability to learn the skills they need to live with other horses. From our perspective, these youngsters deserve the chance of a better life but also come with a steep learning curve requiring training over a few years, particularly if they are colts (which is, often the case) so they will need gelding at some stage. A lot of requests for us to take horses are often simply due to them no longer being rideable and therefore being seen as a very expensive pet (It's not just dogs that are for life - horses live into their 30's). For us, this is a hard decision as it can mean ongoing medical costs and we have to seriously consider whether we take on a horse or possibly sign a death certificate. We can't save them all, much as they all need help we have to calculate the potential effect it might have on our commitment to the current residents. Recent times have made it a real struggle to survive but we are still here . We operate on a 42 acre farm in Old Windsor and are a registered charity. We are also registered for Gift aid. Please consider a donation if you can - no one is paid for their services and 100% of donations goes towards the care of our animals. We currently care for 48 horses and ponies; chickens and ducks; 3 goats and 2 pigs (every one of them rescued). We are run by a small team of unpaid volunteers and rely on event revenue; street collections and donations from the public to survive. If you are able to help fund raise or can afford a small donation we would be so grateful. Bank details:

Two of our volunteers, Tracy and Anna, felt like a bit of R and R after a busy morning at the farm caring for our rescues. They decided to take some time to try some Equine Assisted Therapy by the river and see how our herd would react.

Horses, like dogs, can sense things that we can't and are highly tuned in to how other horses and people around them are feeling.

As you can see they were very keen to join in and enjoyed the calm interaction with Tracy and Anna. This is something we find fascinating and would like to explore this further

We're sure you all remember little Bugs Bunny, rescued as a tiny orphaned foal a few years ago. Our team of volunteers fed him every 4 hours, day and night and he thrived, as can be seen from the pictures below.

Bugs is one of our many success stories and makes everything we do worthwhile. Our supporters are a huge part of that and we value every single person who donates either regularly or in response to a call for help.

Thank you all ###

So, our beautiful barn has been built with support from The Anthony V Martin Foundation, The Sir Mike Gooley Trailfinders Charity fund and Barker Bridge House Trust, two of which are based in Datchet. This means our hay can be stored safely and protected from the elements.

Winter months are the toughest and most expensive for us as our herd rely on hay through to spring when the new grass comes through. I've attached a photo to give some perspective on how much this costs and to show how valuable every single donation is.

The hay in the picture cost £1200 and will last 10 days in current weather conditions. This is an essential, basic food source for all horses, not a luxury, along with foot trims, worming and hard feed for our elderly and weaker rescues.

If you are able to help us with a one off or regular donation we would be so grateful.

Many of our supporters pay £5 per month and we couldn't survive their kindness. We have over 3,500 followers on Facebook and if everyone gave just a few pounds each month we would never have to make appeals like this.

Please help if you can.
Thank you so, so much.

Happy New Year to you all ###

It's been a tough year at the farm, but we have so much to be thankful for....
- our amazing team of volunteers who give their time for free, in all weather conditions to support our rescues and give them all a life free of fear and a second chance to be cared for and loved.
- EVERYONE who donates regularly or has responded to our appeals for help - whether financially; donating food or donating towels or tack - you are all valued
- grants that have enabled us to complete projects that contribute directly to the welfare of our horses

HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL

Without you, there wouldn't be a safe place for these gorgeous creatures 😍

THE BARN IS UP!!!
This is something we truly believed might never happen. The cost of the structure and the installation and build costs were facilitated by grants awarded by:

- The Anthony V Martin Foundation who work with charities worldwide to help animals in need https://www.anthonyvmartinfoundation.org/

- The Mike Gooley Trailfinders Charity who support a range of UK charities.

We would also like to thank everyone who has ever responded to an appeal, supported our events or regularly donates. We value each and every one of you. We rely on your support and quite simply wouldn't be here without you ❤️

Now, more than ever, we really need your help to buy hay for the winter. Please, please consider giving a monthly donation - a small bale of hay now costs £7.50 - that's equivalent to 2 cups of coffee! Please donate if you can

We're so excited - work has started today to construct our new barn to store hay and keep machinery out of the rain. This is a dream come true for us.

The price of hay has risen hugely due to the dry Summer, a large round bale is almost £100, a small bale £7.50, and with 32 horses to feed over the winter we are worried about being able to buy enough to last through to the Spring.

If you're able to donate any amount to help we'd be so grateful. Any amount truly makes a difference.

Thank you x
