SCDA Aberdeen District

SCDA Aberdeen District The page for information about the Scottish Community Drama Association in Aberdeen District.

The Scottish Community Drama Association has been going for 90 years this year. We aim to provide opportunities for everyone in the community to get involved in acting, be it on stage, back stage or in production. Each year the Aberdeen District of the SCDA hosts a festival of One Act Plays where local groups enter plays into the competition. There are various specifications such as length of play

and number of actors, and all the plays that are entered as a competition item are judged by an experienced adjudicator who gives constructive feedback on all the plays. However, we also accept non-competitive entries for groups who just want to experience acting in front of an audience. There are several prizes up for grabs each year including overall 1st and 2nd place, Youth Team 1st place, Best Stage Presentation, Best Moment of Theatre and Outstanding Achievement. Winners of the 1st and 2nd place go on to compete against other teams in the Northern Division (made up of Angus, Orkney, Perthshire and Aberdeen). After the Northern Division comes the Scottish Finals, and after that the British Finals! There is also a separate Youth competition that follows the same progress route. Aberdeen has had several teams over the years who have been extremely successful and this year we had a team from the Aberdeen District representing Scotland at the British finals! We welcome groups from all over Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire area, be you newly formed, long running or just a group that forms for the purpose of the festival! It is a great platform to gain experience and develop skills, not to mention meeting likeminded folk. As well as the festival we also run workshops for actors and directors on a wide range of disciplines such a mime, how to get the most of out of your actors and characterisation. There are some rules and guidance that all groups have to follow to take part – to receive a copy of these or for any more information please message us here, or send an email to [email protected]

*IMPORTANT UPDATE - SCOTTISH YOUTH FINAL*

Following overwhelming demand for our upcoming Scottish Youth Final (on Saturday 13th June) in the Joan Knight Studio at the Perth Theatre, which caused us to sell out in less than 24 hours, we are pleased to report that we have been able to move the festival to the main theatre in the building.

🎭 Ticket prices remain unchanged at £14 and £7

🎭All ticket requirements (for the general public) should be organised by individuals by contacting the theatre when they become available for sale (note that the previous online Joan Knight Studio booking page has been removed from the theatre’s website and a new booking link will be provided when available so look out for that 👀)

🎭 Perth Theatre will reach out to customers directly and transfer all those who held tickets for the Joan Knight Studio into the main theatre - this will be done on a strictly like-for-like basis, i.e. if you hold a ticket for A5, you will be given A5 in the main theatre

Now that we have many more seats available, we hope that everyone will be encouraged to come along and show your support for our youth teams as they perform and compete to be crowned Scottish Champions.
